Watch Out Kim And Kanye, There’s A New Airline Baby In Town!

9

As anyone with terrible taste in entertainment news knows, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian named their baby North West. As an aviation geek I assume they were naming their baby after a once decent airline… right?!?

Regardless, move over North West, because there’s a new airline baby in town. A baby was born on an April 22 Jetstar flight from Singapore to Yangon. The best part? The mother’s family name was Star, so to thank the airline for the great job they did, she named her baby Jet Star.

Jet-Star

Here’s what Jetstar (the airline, not the baby) had to say on their Facebook page (though with the speed at which kids are embracing technology nowadays, maybe Jet Star already has his own Facebook page as well):

We’re most pleased to announce that a baby boy, named Saw Jet Star, was delivered safely onboard 3K583 by a team of doctors and the crew after the flight landed in Yangon on Friday, 22 April 2016.

Both mother and son are in good health and have been discharged from the local hospital in Yangon.

The baby boy weighed six pounds, seven ounces and is the FIRST baby to be delivered on a Jetstar Asia flight and we will be contributing SGD1,000 worth of baby supplies to the family.

The Jetstar crew on board 3K583 led by Customer Service Manager, Mr Saw Ler Htu exercised utmost care and concern for the passenger, calling for medical assistance on board the aircraft when required.

Jetstar would also like to commend the three medical doctors for stepping in to provide the medical support.

It’s cute that the airline is contributing baby supplies, and I guess this is good press for them all around. At the same time, it always amazes me how far along in pregnancy some people fly. For what it’s worth, Jetstar’s policy on traveling while pregnant is as follows:

Jetstar-Asia-Pregnancy

So with a single pregnancy you can take a flight of four hours or less up to the 40th week, though starting at the 28th week you need a doctor’s note…

Fortunately it all ended well, though I can’t imagine what it was like on the plane. Hopefully it wasn’t a full flight.

(Tip of the hat to Florian)

The good thing is that Asians love to change to Western names (and use them instead), so I hope the poor kid will change it for a more conventional one.

I read elsewhere that the mother is a Myanmar national. I wonder if she had travelled for medical care and didn't quite make it back in time. It's nice that some doctors were on board.

Not nearly as bad a name as Pilot Inspektor. Poor kid.

I do NOT want to be flying with anyone in their 40th week of pregnancy. THANKS!! I lived in SLC during the olympics and my 1st was born right after. I did not attend any events cause I didn't want to become the event. For the record, my baby was born at "record speed" on a hospital bed at 37 weeks.

I don't know if this is just me, or if it's the site, but when I click on your logo header it gives me a 404 not found error page. Also when I type the link into the address bar. Just a heads up.

    Peter T -- It's Burmese, not Chinese.

Delta is quite common name and Alaska was popular for Hippie parents a few decades ago. Varig , Vueling ,Avianca and Tarom could be possibles. Can't imagine Virgin being popular though. Cute baby.

Actually the family name is Saw. Chinese names start with the family name followed by the personal name(s).

Same thing happened to me. Except I wasn't as lucky with the airline name...now my baby is named Hainan Airlines.
