The Amex Offers program sometimes offers savings or bonus points on flight purchases, which can represent a great deal. We’ve just seen a new offer introduced, which is easy enough to take advantage of.
In this post:
Spend $180+ with Delta, save $40
A new targeted Amex Offers deal has just been rolled out, which offers a $40 statement credit when you spend $180+ on a Delta purchase. Note that rather than rewarding purchases directly with Delta, this instead rewards purchases via Amex Travel. This is valid for purchases through July 5, 2024.
That’s the equivalent of up to ~22% back on a Delta flight (if spending exactly $180), which is awesome. There are some basic conditions to this offer that are worth being aware of:
- You need to spend $180, but it can be in multiple transactions
- You must purchase the itinerary via Amex Travel, and the flights must be marketed by Delta
- If you make a flight purchase, the flight must originate in the United States, and be charged in USD
- You must book by July 5, 2024, though there’s no need to actually travel by then
This is targeted at the Amex Platinum Card
It would appear that this offer is specifically available on the personal version of The Platinum Card® from American Express (review), in celebration of the card’s 40th anniversary. That works out great, because the card offers 5x Membership Rewards points on airfare, including tickets booked through Amex Travel (up to $500,000 of flight purchases per calendar year, and then 1x).
I value Membership Rewards points at 1.7 cents each, so to me that’s the equivalent of an 8.5% return on spending right there. When you add up both the $40 statement credit and value of the 5x points, you’re potentially looking at getting over a 30% return on Delta spending.
I continue to be so impressed by how much value Amex Offers adds to Amex cards, as in many cases these offers alone more than justify the annual fees on cards.
Bottom line
There’s a new targeted Amex Offers deal that can save you $40 when you spend $180+ on a Delta purchase through Amex Travel. This is an excellent deal, and when you factor in the statement credit and value of points, this can potentially get you quite a bit of value.
If you have any upcoming travel to plan, be sure to check your Amex account to see if you’re eligible for this offer.
Were you targeted for this offer, and if so, do you plan on taking advantage of it?
Too bad it is through Amextravel only. Usually their prices are regular rate not the cheapest rate and cheaper rates are direct via Delta.
I got it too but it's through AmexTravel. From past experiences, if I cancel the flight, I'll get the credit but through AmexTravel (and will need to call them to use the credits.)
Glad to see this fresh new batch of Amex offers. Things had been stale for a while now…
My son will be very happy. :)
