In early May the new Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus Credit Card was introduced. As part of Marriott creating a new loyalty program they’re changing up their credit card portfolio, and this new card is part of that.

The card has a $95 annual fee, and offers a huge welcome bonus of 100,000 Marriott Rewards points after spending $5,000 within the first three months. I value Marriott Rewards points at ~0.8 cents each, so to me those points are worth about $800. We’ve known that this is a limited time bonus, though I didn’t actually know when the offer would expire. It looks like we now have our answer.

As noted by View from the Wing, the end date for this offer is published on this page. The current welcome bonus on the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Card ends on July 12, 2018. So if you’ve been considering this offer, you have just a few weeks to apply. We don’t know what the bonus will look like after July 12, though I’d assume it will be worse.

This is a card that could be pretty valuable long term, given the perks it offers, including:

  • A free night on your account anniversary every year, which can be redeemed for a hotel costing up to 35,000 Marriott Rewards points per night; this should cover a vast majority of Marriott properties worldwide (including Starwood hotels)
  • You receive automatic Marriott Rewards Silver status for as long as you have the card, and Gold status when you spend $35,000 on purchases on the card in an account year
  • Starting in 2019, you’ll receive 15 elite night credits towards status every calendar year; note that each Marriott account can get that credit at most once, so if you have multiple cards offering that, it won’t stack

To me the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Card is well worth it for the anniversary free night certificate alone, as most people should be able to get way more than $95 of value out of that.

If you are going to apply for the card, just keep in mind the restrictions to be aware of:

If you’re locked out from getting the card due to those restrictions, consider getting the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card instead. The card also has a great welcome bonus and excellent perks, and it’s not subjected to 5/24.

  1. @ Alpha — Absolutely. Not only does the card have a big welcome bonus, but you can stack the free night certificates, so having this one would get you an additional free night every year.

  2. Does anyone know if you can cancel the previous Marriott credit card and sign up for the new one and still get the 100,000 bonus?

I just hit two years with the old version, so was wondering if doing that would work.

  3. Damn, I’m 4/24 but just signed up for CSP. Cant deal with 9k spend in 3 months. I guess I’ll have to skip

  4. I signed up for the older card and keeping it. Not having the elite night per $3000 dollars on the new card was a no go for me. With the old card, you can combine actual stays plus elite nights earned to reach Platinum, but you can’t with the new card. Spending $35K to earn gold is roughly the same as earning gold via elite night per $3K spend, but now you don’t have the ability to go further to platinum.

  5. I just started required spend on the 70K biz card w/ no annual fee 1st year. Staying under 5/24 so I won’t get this one unless the bonus returns later in the year.
