For the past several years, most of IHG Rewards Club’s global promotions have been “Accelerate” offers, which are targeted bonuses where you earn bonus points for completing certain tasks. The current Accelerate offer is valid for stays through July 31, 2018.

IHG Rewards Club has announced a further promotion for members with accounts registered in North and South America. Specifically, eligible members who register can earn up to 30,000 bonus points for stays this summer. The promotion is valid for hotel stays between July 1 and September 16, 2018, and you start earning bonus points with your second stay. The number of bonus points you earn varies by brand:

  • Earn 5,000 bonus points per stay at InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Kimpton Hotels, Hotel Indigo, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, and EVEN Hotels
  • Earn 2,000 points at Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Holiday Inn Club Vacations, Holiday Inn Resort, Staybridge Suites, and Candlewood Suites

Earn 5,000 bonus points per night at the Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs

A member can earn a maximum of 30,000 bonus points during the promotion, and only points eligible stays qualify (meaning that free night awards and third party bookings don’t count towards the promotion). This promotion is also only valid for stays in North and South America, so this matches the requirements of where member accounts have to be registered. There’s no requirement as to how long each stay needs to be, so even a one night stay would qualify for the promotion.

Bonus points should post within four to six weeks of an eligible checkout.

Personally I value IHG Rewards Club points at ~0.5 cents each, so to me that’s like an additional return of ~$25 on stays at some brands, and a return of ~$10 at other brands. That’s not necessarily a reason to go out of your way to stay at an IHG property, though it is a nice added bonus, especially for short stays. This could be especially lucrative for stays in July, since you can stack this with the Accelerate offer (which expires on July 31, 2018).

You can always make your IHG Rewards Club points go further by having the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card. The card offers a fourth night free on award redemptions, and on top of that offers a welcome bonus of 80,000 IHG Rewards Club points after spending $2,000 within the first three months.

Comments

  1. You didn’t mention the most important restriction–that it only applies for your second stay and on–doesn’t count if you only have one stay during the period.

  2. I’m assuming you don’t get these if you choose to take airline miles instead of IHG points? I almost never stay at IHG so don’t bother to collect their points, but have a Hotel Indigo stay coming up.
