In the interest of full disclosure, One Mile At A Time earns a referral bonus for anyone that’s approved through some of the below links. For those of you not familiar with Amex Offers, it’s a program available through most Amex cards, where different cards are eligible for different savings and bonus offers. In many cases the offers can be huge, and more than offset the annual fee on a card.
To view Amex Offers, go to the bottom of the account summary page of any American Express card, where you’ll see all the offers you’re eligible for. These offers come in different forms, including discounts and even in some cases bonus points.
At the moment there’s a new targeted Amex Offer for $50 back when you spend $200+ in one transaction with TripFuel (at tripfuel.com/amexoffer) by November 14, 2018.
I hadn’t heard of TripFuel before, but they’re a Priceline company that books hotels, so this is essentially a way to get $50 off a $200+ hotel booking. If you do take advantage of this, ideally you’d do so on a stay that costs just over $200, so the savings are as close to 25% as possible. The more expensive the rate is, the smaller the percent savings.
Note that if you book through TripFuel you probably won’t be earning points or receiving elite benefits with your hotel loyalty program, so there may be some tradeoff if you’re booking a chain hotel. In general I’m finding that TripFuel rates are identical to the best available rates being charged directly by the hotels. This means that they don’t have access to “member only” rates, though at least you’re not paying the standard rate.

As a reminder, this promotion is targeted, though at least it seems to be pretty widely targeted, as I see the offer on several of my cards, including The Platinum Card® from American Express, The Business Platinum® Card from American Express OPEN, and more.
If you’re looking at making a more expensive hotel booking, there’s also a targeted Amex Offer for 10,000 bonus Membership Rewards points when spending $600+ on prepaid hotels through AmexTravel.com by July 15, 2018. I value Membership Rewards points at ~1.7 cents each, so that’s like a ~$170 return on a $600+ hotel booking, which is great.
This promotion won’t be worth it for everyone, but for someone who isn’t especially brand loyal, this could represent a great deal. Personally I’ll give this promotion a pass, since I can typically score a cheaper rate than the best available through AAA, or through a prepaid rate. Furthermore, while I’d be happy to sacrifice points and elite credit if the price difference is huge, I’m not sure this is quite enough to justify doing so, in my case.
Anyone plan to take advantage of this TripFuel Amex Offer?
