For years, IHG Rewards Club has been offering PointBreaks, which is one of the best promotions in the hotel industry. On a quarterly basis IHG has made well over a hundred hotels available for just 5,000 points per night. The hotels are available on a limited basis, so the best hotels typically sell out within days, while some hotels stay on the list for nearly three months.
Earlier this year IHG Rewards Club revamped their PointBreaks concept. Over the years the quality of hotels on the list deteriorated significantly, so they now offer hotels for 5,000 points, 10,000 points, or 15,000 points per night. They claim that this allows them to put more hotels on the list, and based on the first PointBreaks promotion we saw this year, I’d say they’re doing a good job.
IHG Rewards Club has just let me know that the next PointBreaks promotion will be available at 12PM EDT on Monday, April 30, 2018. This will be valid for bookings and stays between April 30 and July 31, 2018, subject to availability. They say that there will be 170 properties featured on the list, and they provide the following nine samples of hotels that will be on the list:
- Holiday Inn® Suzhou Huirong Plaza (People’s Republic of China)
- Holiday Inn Express® Krabi Ao Nang Beach (Thailand)
- Crowne Plaza® Perth (AU)
- Hotel Indigo® Austin Downtown – University (US)
- InterContinental® Costa Rica at Multiplaza Mall (Costa Rica)
- Holiday Inn Express® London-Royal Docks, Docklands (UK)
- Hotel Indigo® Dusseldorf – Victoriaplatz (Germany)
- Holiday Inn® Ottawa Kanata (Canada)
- Candlewood Suites® San Antonio Downtown (US)
Hotel Indigo Dusseldorf
I’ll post again once we know the full list, which will hopefully have quite a few good hotels.
In the meantime, if you don’t have any IHG points it could make sense to buy them with an 80% bonus through a promotion they’re running right now. If you have the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card then you can even buy points for 20% off the sale price. That way you’ll have enough points so you can make a PointBreaks booking.
Furthermore, if you have the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card then you receive a fourth night free on award bookings, including PointBreaks bookings. This means that on Monday you could make a four night booking but only have to pay for three nights.
I can’t wait to see the full list!
