Marriott Rewards Offering New Members Free Night After Two Stays

Nowadays there aren’t many loyalty programs that offer new members significant welcome bonuses, even in conjunction with qualifying activity. That’s why this promotion is pretty noteworthy.

New Marriott Rewards members can earn a free night certificate after making two stays between April 25 and August 28, 2018. Stays at all participating Marriott Rewards properties count towards this promotion, and the free night certificate will be valid at a Category 1-5 hotel.

The free night certificate will be deposited in the Marriott Rewards account after successful completion of the second stay, and will be valid for one year from the date of issue.

Let me once again emphasize that this promotion is only for new members, and only those who sign up through this link. If you’re an existing member I wouldn’t recommend signing up for a new account, as there’s a good chance they’ll catch you and cancel both of your accounts. However, if you have a family member or friend who doesn’t have a Marriott Rewards account, this could make a lot of sense for them.

As of August Marriott will be forming a single loyalty program. We don’t know exactly which date in August the program will launch, though until then only stays at Marriott Rewards properties will qualify. Presumably as of that point, stays at Starwood hotels would qualify as well, since they’ll all be considered the same for the purposes of the loyalty program.

The free night certificate offered with this promotion is valid at Marriott Rewards properties, though since a single program is being formed, it should also be redeemable at Starwood hotels as of August. What we don’t yet know exactly is how the categories will map over in the new program, and whether a Category 1-5 certificate will be valid at Category 1-5 properties in the new program, or what. Personally I’d expect Marriott to be generous in this regard.

Anyway, I consider this to be an excellent promotion for those who aren’t Marriott Rewards members, but have plans to stay at some of their hotels this summer. Also keep in mind that Marriott Rewards is offering a promotion this summer that can be stacked with this promotion, so if you’re new to the program be sure to register.

Does anyone plan on taking advantage of this great Marriott Rewards promotion for new members?

  1. Might be a redundant question but wanted to check anyway. Can I sign up for Marriott Rewards and get this bonus when I already have an SPG account since they’ll combine in August? I do not have a Marriott Rewards account.

  2. @ Lucky – thanks! Procrastination pays off as we hadn’t opened a Marriott account for one of us.

  3. Aaah, shame i registered like 1 week ago and i will have my first stay soon. Its bad i missed this. 🙁

  4. If I book a three night stay, book at for the first night, an OTA the second, and again for the third night (all consecutive nights same hotel), would that count has 2 stays?

  5. I think you’re still able to register for the new member free night after 2 stays if you’ve never gotten it as a reward before. I’ve been a Marriott member for over a year now and I was able to register.

Loyaltylobby had an article about it about 2-3 weeks ago. They had screenshots of them doing 2 stays and getting the free reward night.

The trick was go to the page and login, then the button changes to Register or something. I don’t remember exactly.

  6. i’m in a strange situation — signed up for this without thinking, but i’ve been a member for years. now the thing (free night) is sitting in my account but i’m scared to use it in case they close my account … wish they hadn’t let me sign up

  7. I actually stayed at Marriott Tang Plaza in February for 15 nights and March for another 15 nights. Front Desk registered Marriott Reward for me. Unluckily, I am not able to access the system now. I would like to know if I am eligible to free night. The reward brochure I got from Tang Plaza printed the free night to be given.
