Singapore KrisFlyer recently introduced “Spontaneous Escapes” awards, which are similar to the Air France-KLM’s monthly Promo Awards. In the case of these KrisFlyer awards, they’re available for travel the following month, so they really are pretty last minute.
KrisFlyer published their latest set of awards this week, and they have the potential to be pretty interesting, with 23 destinations on sale in business class.
Through this promotion you can receive 30% off select award redemptions on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir.
The promotion is valid for bookings made through April 30, 2018, and for flights taken between May 1 and May 31, 2018 (though some destinations have blackout dates). The discounted redemption rates should automatically be reflected when doing award searches online.
There are a good number of routes that are eligible, including flights on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir, in both economy and business class. This list is much more extensive than previous promotions.
Eligible Singapore Airlines destinations include the following (however, only specific flights are eligible, so you’ll want to check out the full list), and then there are many more SilkAir destinations:
- Economy class: Jakarta, Bangkok, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Hong Kong, Taipei, Shanghai, Seoul, Dhaka, Male, Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Wellington, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, London, Munich
- Business class: Jakarta, Bangkok, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Manila, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Colombo, Dhaka, Kolkata, Male, Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Wellington, Dubai, Dusseldorf
There are almost double the number of cities available in business class compared to the last promotion, including four cities in Australia.
Remember that Singapore’s new A380 business class is operating between Singapore and Sydney on flights 221/222 and 231/232, so if you see space on those flights I’d definitely choose those over flight 288.
Either way, the discount will be calculated automatically when you click on an eligible flight, so there’s nothing extra you have to do.
As you can see, there are no longer fuel surcharges on KrisFlyer awards, so you’re only paying the taxes, making this a much better value proposition.
Still, it’s probably not worth going out of your way to take advantage of this promotion, if you’re planning travel for May between Singapore and one of the eligible destinations, this promotion is most definitely worth being aware of.
If you don’t have KrisFlyer miles, keep in mind that the program is transfer partners with all four major transferable points currencies, including Amex Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Citi ThankYou, and Starwood Preferred Guest, so there are tons of cards that can accrue KrisFlyer miles in the US.
Does anyone plan to take advantage of the KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes promotion this month?
