There’s an excellent new Amex Offer at the moment that I think almost anyone who is targeted should be able to get value out of, especially as it can be stacked with another promotion.
For those of you not familiar with Amex Offers, it’s a program available through most Amex cards, where different cards are eligible for different savings and bonus offers. In many cases the offers can be huge, and more than offset the annual fee on a card. To view Amex Offers, go to the bottom of the account summary page of any American Express card, where you’ll see all the offers you’re eligible for. These offers come in different forms, including discounts and even in some cases bonus points.
There’s a new targeted Amex Offer for Google Express, valid for purchases through April 29, 2018.
There are two versions of this offer. The first version offers $20 back when you spend $60 or more with Google Express.
The other version of the offer gives 2,000 Membership Rewards points when you spend $60 or more with Google Express.
That latter is definitely a better option. I value Membership Rewards points at 1.7 cents each, so to me those 2,000 points are worth $34, which is the equivalent of a return of over half on your purchase.
But it gets even better than that. If you’re a first time Google Express customer you can get 20% off your first order by using promotion code SPRING2018, with maximum savings of $20.
In other words, if you had the offer for 2,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $60 then you could buy $75 worth of stuff, knock the price down to $60, and then get 2,000 Membership Rewards points, worth $34 (to me). That’s like spending a total of $26 for $75 worth of stuff, which is amazing.
For those of you not familiar with Google Express, it’s basically Google’s response to Amazon, or something. It offers free delivery on items from stores like Walmart, Costco, Target, and Walgreens. They have a huge selection of things to choose from. Pricing varies, but for the most part I find it to be pretty competitive.
For example, let’s say you needed 204 Tide Pods. Each pack of 51 costs $19.99, so you could buy four of them for $79.88, and then you’d get 20% off using promotion code SPRING20, bringing the total down to $64 pre-tax. Then you’d get 2,000 Membership Rewards points, which I value at $34.
Google Express has so many products, so no matter whether you want coffee or bottled water or toilet paper or hand soap, this is an offer that almost everyone should take advantage of, in my opinion.
As a reminder, this is a targeted offer, so not all Amex cards will be eligible for the offer. Personally I see the offer for bonus Membership Rewards points on all The Platinum Card® from American Express cards that I manage.
Were you targeted for this offer, and do you plan on taking advantage of it?
