For those of you not familiar with Amex Offers, it’s a program available through most Amex cards, where different cards are eligible for different savings and bonus offers. In many cases the offers can be huge, and more than offset the annual fee on a card.
To view Amex Offers, go to the bottom of the account summary page of any American Express card, where you’ll see all the offers you’re eligible for. These offers come in different forms, including discounts and even in some cases bonus points.
There’s a new targeted Amex Offer for JW Marriott, valid for purchases through June 18, 2018. With this offer you can get $40 off $200+ worth of spend at a JW Marriott, which is the equivalent of 20% off.
There’s another version of the offer out there on some cards earning Membership Rewards points, offering 4,000 Membership Rewards points for $200 of spend.
Since I value Membership Rewards points at ~1.7 cents each, I view the points offer as being significantly more lucrative, as it’s the equivalent of a return of about a third.
As is usually the case with Amex Offers, this one is targeted. However, I’m finding that this one isn’t that tightly targeted, at least not in comparison to the Hyatt Regency and Amazon Amex Offers we’ve seen the past few days. I see this JW Marriott offer on over a dozen accounts that I manage, including The Platinum Card® from American Express, The Business Platinum® Card from American Express OPEN, and The Blue Business℠ Plus Credit Card from American Express.
For those who are eligible, this offer is valid at JW Marriott hotels in the US (there are about 25 US properties, which can be found here). Reservations must be made directly with Marriott to be eligible, and the promotion isn’t valid at brands other than JW Marriott.

Eligible members can only earn this statement credit once. Furthermore, eligibility is determined based on when the cost of your stay is charged to your card. In theory this means that a pre-paid stay booked for a stay after the promotion period would qualify, as long as the hotel actually charges you during the promotion period (sometimes hotels don’t actually charge pre-paid rates in advance, for whatever reason). If you’re redeeming points for a stay at a JW Marriott you should still be eligible for this, as long as you charge at least $200 from your folio to a registered Amex card.
