For those of you not familiar with the CardMatch Tool, the way it works is that you have to enter some personal information (including your name, address, and the last four of your social security number), and based on that information CardMatch can help you find special credit card deals by matching your credit profile with offers you’re likely to qualify for, and even special offers that you’ve been targeted for.
This sounds too good to be true to many, so one question I’ve been asked a few times since that post is whether entering your information on the CardMatch Tool will count as a hard pull? The answer to that is absolutely not — CardMatch just does a soft pull on your credit, so checking your CardMatch offers (no matter how often) won’t impact your credit in any way.
I check my CardMatch offers all the time, in hopes of being targeted for a special offer.
If you don’t check the CardMatch Tool every so often, I’d certainly recommend doing so. That’s especially true if you don’t have the Amex Platinum Card, as it means you have decent odds of being targeted for the current 100K offer on the card. If you are targeted for the offer, then applying for the card should be a no brainer.
Personally I value Membership Rewards points at ~1.7 cents each, meaning that the 100,000 points are worth ~$1,700. However, everyone values points differently, and even if you aren’t going to maximize the points, you can redeem them for one cent each towards the cost of a travel purchase, which means the bonus will get you at least $1,000 worth of travel.
All of this doesn’t account for the other great perks on the card, including:
- A $200 annual airline fee credit
- A $200 annual Uber credit
- Hilton Honors Gold status and Starwood Preferred Guest Gold status
- Access to Amex Centurion Lounges
- Access to Delta SkyClubs when flying Delta same day
- A Priority Pass membership
- 5x points on airfare purchased directly with airlines
- A Global Entry or TSA Pre-Check free credit
While the offer is targeted, once you enter your info through the CardMatch Tool, you might have to click on either “Pre-Qualified” or “CardMatch Special Offers” on the left side of the page to find this offer.
