The 100+ IHG Hotels On The Winter 2017 PointBreaks List

As I posted about earlierIHG Rewards Club’s next PointBreaks list will be bookable starting on Monday. PointBreaks is one of IHG’s best promotions, where you can book select hotels for only 5,000 points per night. I value those points at ~0.5 cents each, so to me that’s like booking select hotels for just ~$25 per night.

As you’d expect, for the most part they’re not putting their best hotels on the list, so don’t expect to score the InterContinental Sydney or Paris through this offer. However, they do often have some decent properties on the list, with the best hotels selling out quickest.

Therefore it’s always worth taking a look at the PointBreaks list before it actually becomes bookable, so that you can potentially plan your travels and book the second the list goes live in Monday.

IHG has now released the list of 100+ properties that will be participating in the next round of PointBreaks, valid for bookings between October 30, 2017, and January 31, 2018.

The Crowne Plaza Panama is on this PointBreaks list

If you have the IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card you get a 10% refund on points redemptions, for a refund of up to 100,000 points per year. That lowers the cost per award night for those with the card to 4,500 points, which is even better. If you don’t yet have the card, getting it should be a no brainer for most. The card offers IHG Rewards Club Platinum status for as long as you have the card, plus an anniversary free night certificate, valid at virtually any IHG property in the world.

Also keep in mind that at the moment IHG Rewards Club is selling points with up to a 100% bonus, which can be a great way to pick up points on the cheap that can be redeemed for a PointBreaks hotel. You can still buy them now and have them post to your account in time for the PointBreaks list going live on Monday.

Here’s the full list, which has to be one of the most underwhelming PointBreaks list I’ve ever seen (there’s not a single InterContinental or Hotel Indigo on the list):

Comments

  1. How do you get the 5,000 point rate? When I look online it’s still listed at the higher rates. Is this something you have to call in for?

  2. @Sophia , I think there were some nice ones last time. For example, there is one I used in Trenton , NJ because it near Sesame Place theme park. Or in Guayaquil airport Ecuador if you want to visit Galapagos and need a overnight stay on the mainland.

The usages are rare, I agree,

  3. @sophia – For me, the announcement of the hotels on the PointBreaks list has become like being a kid opening presents on Christmas morning and getting nothing but socks and underwear. I always scan the list looking/hoping for a great option, only to be disappointed.

  4. I wonder if Parkersburg is a last minute addition to the list, in light of the giant chemical fire burning downtown for the last week.

  5. @Sophia—I stayed at a Hotel Indigo earlier in the month for 5000 points. Great place, fantastic price! These do get used!

  6. Managed to stay at the Holiday Inn Express Brisbane on the last round of 5,000 nights but again this time nothing in Oz/NZ

  7. Go back 6 or so pointbreaks promos ago and there used to always be several decent hotels. Now they are just lists of hotels which must be doing badly.

  8. I guess if my car caught fire in Malvern, Arkansas, I might find this discount handy.

In the past I have found some good value in the discount redemption rate but not more than a week ahead of time, largely due to an impromptu road trip and the fact that most of the hotels are nowhere near where you’d want to go *on purpose*.

  9. UK hotels in the list are still showing their usual 20-30k per night points requirement. Its now afternoon on the 30th October… do IHG work on Hawaii time zone?

  10. Yes, I am having the same problem in Arizona, US. It looks like it has not started here either? What time does it usually begin. Somebody at IHG forgot to set their alarm clock.

  11. Correct, it hasn’t started yet. Typically it starts around 12PM ET or so, so hopefully it goes live soon. I’ll have a post when it’s live.
