In the interest of full disclosure, One Mile At A Time earns a referral bonus for anyone that’s approved through some of the below links. Last week the sign-up bonus was changed on the British Airways Visa Signature® Card. Up until then the card offered a sign-up bonus of up to 100,000 Avios upon completing minimum spend, though the minimum spend requirement was $20,000, which is significant.
We had warning that the sign-up bonus on the card would be changing, and indeed the offer has changed. The good news is that the offer hasn’t changed that much.
The British Airways Visa is now offering a sign-up bonus of up to 75,000 Avios upon completing minimum spend, as follows:
- Earn 50,000 bonus Avios after spending $3,000 within the first three months
- Earn an additional 25,000 bonus Avios after spending a total of $10,000 within the first year
The only part of the offer that’s no longer available is that you don’t earn an additional 25,000 Avios for spending a total of $20,000 within the first year. The card still has a $95 annual fee.
If you’re someone who is a big spender and would have put $20,000 of spend on the card in the first year, then it might make sense to wait for the next offer of up to 100,000 Avios.
However, if you’re someone who was planning on putting less spend than that on the card, then this offer is just as good. It can absolutely make sense to get this card even if you only plan on earning 50,000 Avios through the sign-up bonus, as that’s a great bonus for just $3,000 of spend.
If you’re considering applying for the British Airways Visa, anecdotally this is one of the easier Chase cards to be approved for. Along with the IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card, the card isn’t subjected to Chase’s 5/24 rule, meaning that you can be approved for the card even if you’ve opened five or more card accounts in the past 24 months. You’re eligible for the bonus as long as you don’t currently have the card, and haven’t received a welcome bonus on the card in the past 24 months. So if you’re someone who had this card a long time ago, you’re still eligible for the bonus.
