Earn Double Alaska Mileage Plan Miles For Travel On Qantas

Alaska Mileage Plan is one of my favorite frequent flyer programs, and one of the things that makes the program so great is the lucrative mileage earning rates they offer on their partner airlines.

While Mileage Plan offers great mileage earning rates to begin with, and also offer elite status bonus miles for travel on partner airlines, at the moment they have an additional bonus for travel on Qantas.

Mileage Plan members can earn double Mileage Plan redeemable miles for travel in economy on Qantas between North America and Australia. The bonus is valid on Qantas’ seven routes between North America and Australia:

  • Los Angeles and Brisbane
  • Los Angeles and Melbourne
  • Los Angeles and Sydney
  • Dallas/Fort Worth and Sydney
  • New York and Sydney (via Los Angeles)
  • San Francisco and Sydney
  • Vancouver, BC and Sydney

The promotion is valid for travel between November 1, 2017, and May 31, 2018, and for travel in the following fare classes:

Q, O, N, S, V, M, L, G, K, H, B, and Y

In order to be eligible, Mileage Plan members have to register by October 31, 2017, and the flights have to be operated and marketed by Qantas. Bonus miles should post to your account within four to six weeks of eligible flights. The promotion is only for bonus redeemable miles, and not for bonus elite qualifying miles.

Ordinarily Mileage Plan members earn the following number of miles for travel on Qantas

Earning 100% miles for all economy fares is generous, meaning that through this promotion you’re earning 200% miles. If you were an MVP Gold 75K member you’d earn a 125% mileage bonus, for a total of 325% miles, which is crazy generous. Personally I wouldn’t want to fly economy to Australia if I could avoid it, but at least the mileage earning potential here is huge.

As a point of comparison, American AAdvantage members earn the following number of miles for travel on Qantas:

I’ll let you guys decide whether you’d rather earn 25% American miles or 200% Alaska miles. šŸ˜‰

Anyone able to take advantage of this great Mileage Plan promotion for travel on Qantas?

  1. Yep – signed up today for some flights I have booked YYZ-SYD (via DFW) and will pocket this one for sure. Will switch earning from QF to Alaska as this is a nice little bonus. Thanks Lucky.

  2. If I had a Virgin America cc and was planning on getting the Alaska one to replace it, would you suggest applying now, or waiting a bit to see if the offer changes?

  3. Booked first class LAX-MEL roundtrip. Paid $12,700 and earn 130,700 (825%) miles as MVP Gold 75K.
Amex Platinum 5x points on airfare earned me 62,000 MR points as well.

  4. Perfect. I have 5 flights already ticketed and I need to get 2 more during that promotional period.

    One RT MEL-LAX now earns me 51,486 miles. (100% + 100% bonus + 125% MVP75K. Ticket cost $716 = .014 cpm

A great deal. So basically one RT economy ticket almost gets me a OW J class award ticket (55K).

  5. Caution! I just flew with Hainan Sea-Pvg and my miles haven’t posted. Why is the burden on the passenger to show that we took this flight? Is 2017, shouldn’t everything be electronic by now!?
