This has been around for a while, though is worth posting a reminder about, in my opinion, as I had forgotten this existed. While it’s common for there to be refer-a-friend schemes for credit cards, it’s rare for loyalty programs to offer any sort of bonuses for joining or for referring friends to the program.
Marriott Rewards is one of those programs that offers members an incentive both to refer and be referred to the program. Specifically, new members can earn up to 10,000 bonus Marriott Rewards points, while those referring can earn up to 50,000 bonus Marriott Rewards points.
Here’s how it works:
- Members being referred can receive 2,000 bonus points for each of their first five stays, for a total of up to 10,000 bonus points
- Members referring can receive 2,000 bonus points for each of the first five stays of those they refer, for up to five referrals; that’s a total of up to 50,000 bonus points per calendar year
To refer another member to the program go to this page and enter the email addresses of those you want to refer, plus your name, email address, and Marriott Rewards number. Note that it can take a few hours between when you submit the form and when the email is sent out, so don’t be alarmed if your friend doesn’t receive it immediately.
Alternatively you can just email yourself the invitation, and then send the customized link in the email to the person you’d like to refer, so that you don’t have to wait as long. For example, here’s what the page looks like that is in the email that’s sent out to people (and that’s my referral link).
This promotion should be combinable with any other public promotion that Marriott Rewards is offering. For example, Marriott has a MegaBonus promotion where you can earn a free night at a Category 1-5 property after just one stay. It’s nice to be able to earn an extra 4,000 points on those first two stays.
Feel free to post your own referral links below so that people can sign-up through them.
