Wyndham Rewards Auctions Launches

I have a lot of respect for the direction that Wyndham Rewards has been going. In 2015 they made major changes to their program, which should make anyone who likes aspirational redemptions happy. They adjusted their program so that all award nights cost the same number of points, regardless of whether you’re redeeming at their best or worst property.

Then in 2016, Wyndham Rewards added more elite tiers, as well as elite benefits, including when you redeem points. I love what they’re going for with these changes.

Then in June, Wyndham Rewards introduced a new partnership with Caesars Total Rewards, including status matching and reciprocal points earning and redemptions.

Wyndham Rewards has just announced their latest program improvement, which is similar to SPG Moments, Marriott’s Experiences Marketplace, etc.

Wyndham Rewards Auctions has just launched, which allows members to redeem Wyndham Rewards points towards all kinds of packages with their partners. As of now there are 35 packages live with Caesars, Six Flags, Legoland, and more.

As Wyndham explains it to me, auctions will run 2-3 weeks each, and 25-30 new offerings will be loaded onto the platform monthly. Quantities will vary, and there’s no limit to how many auctions a member can bid on.

Here are a few examples of the auctions that Wyndham is launching:

  • Wyndham Championship Honorary Observer Experience
    • Starting Bid: 3,000 Wyndham Rewards Points
    • Walk inside the ropes during the 2017 Wyndham Championship at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. Package for two includes honorary observer access, ground tickets, VIP parking and beach passes.
  • Wyndham Grand Clearwater Beach Getaway with Dolphin Watching Tour
    • Starting Bid: 6,000 Wyndham Rewards Points
    • Enjoy a two-night beach getaway at the newly opened Wyndham Grand Clearwater Beach in Clearwater, Florida. Package for two includes a two night stay at the Wyndham Grand Clearwater Beach (including all taxes and fees) along with tickets for a dolphin watching tour.
  • Six Flags Park Passes
    • Starting Bid: 3,000 Wyndham Rewards Points
    • Tickets for four to any Six Flags park in the U.S. along with Flash Pass Gold and a parking pass.
  • Celine Dion at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace
    • Starting Bid: 10,000 Wyndham Rewards Points
    • Tickets for two to Celine’s show at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

I’m a big fan of hotel loyalty programs introducing more ways to redeem points, and I imagine some will get lots of value out of this. Keep in mind that Wyndham Rewards has an unconventional redemption chart, as all hotels cost 15,000 points per night. I’d say those points are worth about a penny each (valuing a stay at one of their top properties at ~$150). You can apply your own valuation, and then decide whether or not these packages make sense for you.

Is anyone considering bidding on a Wyndham Rewards auction?

  1. I have been reading your blog for about a year now and only wish I had known about it sooner.
As a travel agent some of your reviews have been very enlightening. I too travel a lot but tend to stay in places longer than you as I also like touring and especially eating in exciting (not necessarily expensive) places. I have played the points game for sometime now and managed to accumulate enough to make the travel stays more upscale than they would have been otherwise.

Keep up the good life and more important keep us informed.
