KrisFlyer Is Offering Up To 50% Off SilkAir Redemptions

Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer program is back with a promotion they’ve offered a few times in the past. KrisFlyer members can save 50% on select SilkAir awards. The basic details are as follows:

  • Book between June 12 and July 11, 2017
  • Travel between July 1 and October 31, 2017
  • Valid for one-way or roundtrip saver level travel
  • You must book through Singapore Airlines’ website to receive the discount; there’s no registration required, so the discounted price should automatically be reflected when price your award ticket

The promotion is valid for both economy and business class travel, and there are many eligible markets. These include destinations like Bali, Koh Samui, Kuala Lumpur, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, etc. You’ll want to see the promotion page for the full listing of eligible markets, which also differ slightly based on whether you’re looking to redeem for economy or business class.

Here are a few examples of eligible markets along with pricing:

I’ve flown SilkAir a couple of times before, and my experiences on them have been pleasant. Their regional business class is similar to domestic first class within the US, with big, comfy leather chairs.

Keep in mind that Singapore KrisFlyer had a mild devaluation earlier this year, and as part of that they eliminated the carrier imposed surcharges they had on award tickets. That’s very good news in conjunction with this promotion, since it means you’ll just pay minimal taxes in addition to the 50% discount on the required mileage.

For example, this promotion even extends to SilkAir’s Australia routes. You can fly from Singapore to Darwin for just 16,250 miles one-way in business class, plus 54.10SGD in taxes and fees.

KrisFlyer miles are among the easiest to rack up, given that they’re transfer partners with all four major transferrable points currencies — Amex Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Citi ThankYou, and Starwood Preferred Guest.

Bottom line

While this is a niche promotion, it has the potential to represent a great deal for anyone traveling from Singapore to other areas in the Pacific. Now that KrisFlyer has eliminated carrier imposed surcharges, this promotion is an even better deal than in the past. Even if you don’t have an existing balance of KrisFlyer miles, you can easily transfer points from partner programs to KrisFlyer.

Hopefully some of you can take advantage of this promotion.

  1. This deal is also better, sort of, with the devaluation since before it was really only like 35% off given the 15% online discount. Now that that’s gone it is truly a 50% discount.

  2. doesn’t seem to reflect the discounted miles when i check on Singapore Airlines. Anyone else?

  3. Hmm I am trying to book this for cebu city to singapore and still getting quoted the 20k miles even though its silk air. I don’t have the miles in my account yet so maybe it changes further in the booking process?
