I’m sure I’m not the only one who uses Amazon to buy just about everything. So a discount on Amazon is about the same as free money to me.

Well, today only Amazon is offering a discount of $8.62 off an order of $50 or more when using promotion code BIGTHANKS at checkout. Apparently this promotion is intended to celebrate their 86.27 score in a reputation ranking poll, which is an 18 year high.

This is an opportunity to get a ~17% discount on a $50 purchase today, which I’d consider to be pretty darn good, given that you can buy just about anything on Amazon. Unfortunately this doesn’t seem to work on the purchase of Amazon gift cards, though does seem to work on the purchase of third party gift cards.

Here are the full terms of the promotion:

  • Offer expires at 11:59 p.m. (PT) 2/22/2017.
  • Offer only applies to products sold by
  • Offer does not apply to digital content, video games, or Amazon Gift Cards.
  • Offer does not apply to orders placed through Alexa, Prime Now, Amazon Restaurants, or any mobile application other than the Amazon Shopping App.
  • Offer limited to one per customer and account.
  • Offer may not be combined with other offers.
  • Items must be purchased in a single order and shipped at the same speed to a single address.
  • Taxes, shipping and handling, and gift wrap charges do not apply when determining minimum purchase amount.
  • Shipping charges and taxes may apply to discounted promotional items.
  • Offer is non-transferable and may not be resold.
  • Offer discount will be allocated proportionally among all promotional items in your order.
  • If any of the products or content related to this offer are returned, your refund will equal the amount you paid for the product or content, subject to applicable refund policies.
  • If you violate any of these terms, the offer will be invalid.
  • Amazon reserves the right to modify or cancel the offer at any time.

(Tip of the hat to Mommy Points)

  1. So this discount is valid on air/hotel/car rental/tour or some other travel-related item at Amazon? Or am I confusing a travel blog with SlickDeals again?

  2. Thank you lucky. My wife is trying to distract herself while she is in labor and was so happy to save money on diapers. Her and I are huge readers of your blog

  3. @ Jimmy – Yeah, you can buy Airbnb, Southwest, (Lucky’s beloved) Hyatt, etc. gift cards. Nothing wrong with saving $8 if you know you’ll spend the gift card.

  4. Yes one purchase by account. The best deal imo is to buy a $50 starbucks gift card and load it to you app and you’re done, instantly saved $9.

  5. Navigate to Amazon through jetblue to get 3x jetblue points on top of that. Now its travel centric and whiny commenters can be quiet. 🙂

  6. Thanks Joe, that’s just what I did…..and charged it with my new Hilton Honors Citi Visa that just came yesterday……to get to that magical $2,000 spend.

So I saved money, added to my JetBlue points and (eventually) to my Hilton Honors points!
