Today Only: Earn 15 American Miles Per Dollar Spent At 15 Retailers

Yesterday I wrote about how the United MileagePlus shopping portal had a one day promotion where you could earn 15 bonus miles per dollar spent at 15 popular retailers. This is great timing, given the number of people doing holiday shopping right now.

Well, it looks like a similar promotion is available today through the American AAdvantage shopping portal.

Through 11:59PM ET today, Tuesday, December 6, 2016, you can earn 15 bonus American miles per dollar spent at 15 retailers.

I value American miles at ~1.5 cents each, so to me the 15 miles per dollar are the equivalent of a ~22.5% return on your spend, not including any points earned with a credit card.

There’s quite a bit of overlap to the retailers that were on offer yesterday, though some are different. The following 15 retailers are eligible for 15 bonus miles per dollar spent today:

  • Backcountry
  • Barneys New York
  • Bose
  • Harry & David
  • JoS. A. Bank
  • Living Social
  • Neiman Marcus
  • New Balance
  • Nike
  • Rosetta Stone
  • Sephora
  • Shoebuy
  • Shutterfly
  • Sunglass Hut
  • World Market

While some of these retailers consistently have big portal bonuses, there are others that are more exceptional, like Barneys, Bose, Neiman Marcus, etc.

If you’re doing some holiday shopping for the traveler in your life, perhaps Bose is the most interesting one to point out, as they make my favorite travel headphones. They rarely discount their products, so being able to earn a ~25% return in terms of points from your spend (when factoring in credit card points) is a great value.

I typically use to compare shopping portal bonuses, and as you’ll see there, the next best option is earning three bonus miles per dollar spent at Bose.

Anyone plan on taking advantage of the excellent 15 mile per dollar bonus through American’s shopping portal today?

  1. Hey Lucky (or anyone with advice),
What is the best loyalty program for Canadians? I am already an Aéroplan collector (I make a decent amount of trips to Europe), but if say, I wanted to make a J or F trip to Asia. Also keep in mind an SPG or AMEX transfer partner is almost necessary because Citi and Chase do not have cards in Canada.

  2. @ travel4b – I took a look at the terms on the portal and did not see if you could purchase GCs. Where did you see that info?
