Hilton already has their best promotion of the year at the moment, as they’re offering triple HHonors base points for stays booked through Hilton’s app through the end of the year.

HHonors members ordinarily earn 10 base points per dollar spent, so that means through Hilton’s current global promotion they’re earning an additional 20 points per dollar spent through. Then you can add in all the other bonus points members can earn, including additional points for choosing Points & Points as your earning preference, elite bonus points, and bonus points for using a credit card that rewards hotel spend.

Well, Hilton has just announced an additional promotion that will earn HHonors members an additional 5,000 bonus points per eligible stay in the coming months, which is incredible.

HHonors members can earn 5,000 bonus points when booking a stay with a Visa credit card through the Hilton HHonors app. The promotion is valid for stays between November 2, 2016, and January 31, 2017, and registration is required.

This new promotion can be stacked with Hilton’s current triple points promotion, and it can be repeated, meaning you can earn the 5,000 bonus points as often as you’d like. Bonus points through this promotion should post 6-8 weeks after the completion of an eligible stay. Only eligible stays qualify for this promotion, so that excludes award stays and other non-eligible rates.

I value Hilton HHonors points at ~0.4 cents each, so to me this promotion is worth an additional ~$20 return per stay, but of course that doesn’t factor in all the other bonus points you can earn.

Hilton has even released a new ad about this promotion, starring Judy Greer:

The full terms of the promotion are as follows:

Offer is valid from November 1, 2016 to January 31, 2017 for Visa® cardholders who are also Hilton HHonors Members who 1) register for the promotion at HiltonHHonors.com/VisaBonus; 2) download the HHonors mobile application to the cardholder’s mobile device; 3) book a stay through the HHonors mobile application; and 4) pay for the completed stay between November 1, 2016 and January 31, 2017 (“Promotional Period”) with any Visa card will receive 5,000 Hilton HHonors™ Bonus Points per eligible stay. Bonus Points earned on Base Points do not count toward Elite tier qualification. Please allow six to eight weeks from completion of the eligible stay for Bonus Points to appear in your Hilton HHonors™ account. This offer may not be combined with other select promotions, offer or discounts and is not valid for groups. Blackout dates, early departure fees, and deposit and cancellation restrictions may apply and vary by hotel, please see individual property for details.

So be sure to register, book all your stays through the Hilton HHonors App, and pay with a Visa card (consider using a card like the Citi® Hilton HHonors Reserve Card or Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature Card), so you can earn 5,000 bonus points per stay.

This is a really great promotion, especially for those who frequently make short, inexpensive stays.

  1. Speaking of Hilton/Visa promos, do you have any update on whether people have actually received the $75 visa gift card in conjunction with that quickly-expired BOGO offer with Visa Signature? I stayed at the Conrad New York about 4 weeks ago, but still no gift card yet. Have you heard reports of people receiving the gift card?

  2. Hi, Lucky —
Why do you think you can only earn the 5000 points once? Rule number 4 says, “…will receive 5,000 Hilton HHonors™ Bonus Points per eligible stay…”

I was more worried that it wasn’t stackable, since “This offer may not be combined with other select promotions, offer or discounts…”

  3. But using a desktop to get double points, not triple, is discrimination by Hilton. The app can be hacked, no one should ever use it.

  4. @ Enjoy Fine Food — Whoops, it’s too early, haven’t had coffee yet. Sorry. Updating the post now.

  5. Doesn’t say. I registered then cancelled my stays and rebooked, (at the same rate, fortunately), just to be safe..

  6. @Lucky sez: “Only eligible stays qualify for this promotion, so that excludes award stays and other non-eligible rates”

Only one who does not know HHonors would write the above. For all practical purposes, including earning promo points, HHonors makes no distinction between paid and award stays. Award stays (“pure” or C+P) are ALWAYS “eligible stays”. The only stays or rates that are seldom eligible are those booked through third parties or “opaque” channels. However, since the whole point of the promo is to book with the HH app and reserve/pay with a HH visa, one cannot do nothing wrong — the points should be in bag if you just do those two little things.

Anyway, this promo is just another example of why Honnors is the most rewarding and vibrant hotel loyalty program out there right now. I just spend 4 nights at Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, in a suite I booked outright because I got 20% off, and my total points-eligible spend for the stay was: $1,205.80

For such a spend, a general member, in the absence of any promo, would earn 12,058 points. Below is what I just got as a HH Diamond when I include the 4 stackable promos that were in effect during this stay (indicated with a preceding dash “–“) and all the points that are part of my basic earning:

    Base Points: 12058
    — 2016 HH3 DOUBLE POINTS OFFER: 12058
    — 2016 HH3 MOBILE APP OFFER: 12058
    — AMEX 5,000 PTS ON US OFFER: 5000
50% BONUS ON BASE POINTS: 6029
    DIAMOND VIP BONUS – 50% 2016: 6029

The grand total posted in my HH account: 62,232
Percent of total attributable to promos: ~60%

…and, the above does not even include 12x/$ or 15K additional HH points that I will earn for paying the folio with my HH AMEX Surpass. In sum, I am looking at ~77K points for a 4-night stay, with promo points accounting for nearly 60% of that total haul.

In fact, with HHonors’ ongoing 3x global promo, I am guaranteed, as a HH Diamond, a brisk earn rate of 52HH/$ till the end of the year, which means that a stay costing me just $100 would earn me $5,200 — enough points for an award stay at a category 1 Hilton property 🙂

    Keep the good times rolling!

  7. @Paul said: “Good promo. Too bad it’s Visa. It would be even better with Amex.”

Actually, you missed it because this offer is similar a HHonors offer that just ended and involved their co-branded AMEX cards. It is not even a coincidence that this co-brand visa offer started on November 1. HHonors did not want it to compete with the AMEX offer, which ran from August 1 to October 31. In my post abovem the associated earn is labeled as “AMEX 5,000 PTS ON US OFFER: 5000”

The promos are, however, not identical. This one for the co-brand visa is better. Well, here’s the text of the just expired co-brand AMEX promo:

“For two completed stays between August 1, 2016 through October 31, 2016 (“Promotion Period”), HHonors members will receive 5,000 HHonors Bonus Points. This offer is valid for Hilton HHonors™ members who hold the Hilton HHonors™ Card from American Express or the Hilton HHonors™ Surpass® Card from American Express”

I will not be participating in the just released co-brand visa offer because I do not wish to cancel and rebook my remaining stays. The promo points to be earned are not sufficiently compelling for me to bother. I will just make up for a portion of it by paying with the HH AMEX and earning 12HH/$.

  8. LOL. Cringe! I just noticed the double negative: “one cannot do nothing wrong”. It started out as “one cannot do anything wrong” and I wanted to change it to just say “can do nothing wrong” but forgot the “cannot” part.

Can BoardingArea implement an editing utility to enable comments, which are often written from tiny mobile devices or on while the run, to be edited? It might make for clearer and higher quality comments and discussion…

  9. I have the Amex Hilton and the Citi Hilton. I used the Amex to book a reservation during the eligible period. This was a couple weeks ago… Am I able to change the booking to my Citi card so I can get the bonus?

  10. @Peter — To be on the safe side you should cancel your existing reservation and then rebook. Rates may not have changed much in a couple of weeks (they might even be lower). If you toy with your existing reservation even a bit, but end up changing nothing, it will be flagged as having been “tampered” with and you would not earn the 500 AMEX Co-brand booking bonus automatically (you would have to call and complain that you did not get it). It is usually best to cancel and then rebook since there is no penalty other than the rates might be different. Stepwise, you should first book the new reservation before canceling your old, just in case you change your mind or something goes wrong…

  11. I’ll be staying with Hilton in January, so hopefully they have at least a double points promotion for the first quarter of 2017. Either way, it looks like the 5000 bonus points is valid through Jan 31st, so as a Diamond member I’ll be getting 15 points per dollar, 5000 bonus points, plus whatever their first quarter promo for next year will be. Not bad at all!

  12. @DCS
You seem to know much about HH programs. I have some questions regarding the calculation of hilton points.
    1. How is base points calculated? Is it (the price of the stay excluding the tax)*10?
    2. So if I stay 4 nights in a different Hilton hotels, in theory, would I get 4 “VISA/AMEX 5000p on us offer”, as opposed to 4 nights in the same hotel just once?

  13. I already have a reservation booked during this time and have registered for this promotion. Can I still get the bonus points for any purchase each day we are there as long as I use my visa card? Or do I really need to cancel and rebook through the app to qualify?

  14. I had three stays in China in three different cities, all booked on Android with Visa during this current promotion. 5000 points posted for the first stay only!
