Great Deal: Save 20% On Domestic United Awards

United MileagePlus seems to have an unadvertised award sale at the moment, where select domestic economy awards are available for 20% off. The basic details are as follows:

  • Valid for travel between August 23 and December 15, 2016 (with blackout dates of November 22, 23, 26, 27, and 28)
  • Valid exclusively for roundtrip travel (one-way and multi-city itineraries aren’t eligible)
  • Only valid for saver level economy class tickets
  • Must book by August 23, 2016

With that in mind, the award costs under this sale are as follows:

  • Domestic saver shorthaul awards cost 16,000 miles roundtrip (rather than 20,000 miles)
  • Domestic saver awards cost 20,000 miles roundtrip (rather than 25,000 miles roundtrip)
  • Alaska saver awards cost 28,000 miles roundtrip (rather than 35,000 miles)
  • Hawaii saver awards cost 36,000 miles roundtrip (rather than 45,000 miles)

Bottom line

While in general I’d rather redeem my miles for longaul international travel, there are some great deals to be had here. Saver level domestic awards can represent a great deal to begin with (given how expensive domestic airfare can be nowadays), so when you knock off a further 20%, it becomes an even better value.

Hopefully some of you can get value out of this promotion.

(Tip of the hat to Dan’s Deals)

  1. @dg, no these discounts are only on MileagePlus awards, so you’ll need to use United award miles or transfer points to United to redeem.

  2. Are these United posts and trip report your passive aggressive way of showing you’re no longer banned from United?

  3. Why do the scumbags at UA have basically zero saver inventory in C to Hawaii? Also if the chart say 40k one way at the normal rate in c/f why am i seeing 46k one way saver F awards? So glad I have mostly quit them.
