Club Carlson’s Next Global Promotion: Earn Up To Triple Points

Club Carlson has just announced the details of their next global promotion, called Work Hard, Play Hard. The promotion is valid for stays between August 1 and October 31, 2016, and registration is required.

Through this promotion you earn:

  • Double base points when checking in Sunday through Thursday nights
  • Triple base points when checking in Friday or Saturday nights
  • 1,000 bonus points per eligible stay when booking through the Club Carlson mobile app

For stays in the Middle East, check-ins Saturday through Wednesday earn double points, while check-ins Thursdays and Fridays earn triple points.

All Club Carlson family properties globally are participating in this promotion. Bonus points should post to your Club Carlson account within 8-10 days of an eligible stay.

You’re capped at earning a total of 50,000 bonus points through the promotion, with the exception of the bonus points for booking through the mobile app, where there is no limit. Since you earn 20 base points per dollar spent, that means you’re capped at earning the bonus on $2,500 of spend for double points stays, or ~$1,250 of spend at triple points stays.

Since Club Carlson members ordinarily earn 20 points per dollar spent, though this promotion you’d earn a total of 40 points per dollar if you’re earning double points, or 60 points per dollar if you’re earning triple points. That doesn’t include the 1,000 point bonus for booking through the mobile app, or any elite bonuses (Silver, Gold, and Concierge members get a 15%, 35%, and 75% bonus on base points, respectively).

I value Club Carlson points at ~0.4 cents each, so to me an additional 20 points per dollar is a marginal return of ~8%, while an additional 40 points per dollar is a marginal return of ~16%. That’s pretty good.

Bottom line

We haven’t seen many hotels publish fall promotions yet, so this is a very nice start from Club Carlson. Personally I struggle to stay with them too often, since their US properties are largely very limited service. They have some very useful properties in Europe (especially Northern Europe), but that’s not really enough for me to be loyal.

Radisson Blu Royal Hotel Copenhagen

Let’s hope that Hyatt and Starwood announce fall promotions soon as well.

Do you plan on taking advantage of Club Carlson’s Work Hard, Play Hard promotion?

  1. It’s getting harder and harder to get value from CC. We are staying again on points at the Radisson Blu Le Dokans in Paris next month. The hotel isn’t exactly aspirational, but it’s nice enough. And we really love the residential neighborhood, with the Eiffel Tower within walking distance. But we are only staying there because we booked it many months ago, since which the property has left CC. It’s at least nice that they are still honoring our CC award reservation. 😉

  2. @Robert it’s now SPG you should maybe get some SPG benefits too!

@lucky not sure how you justify 0.4 cents each. Their worthwhile properties are 70,000 points but not necessarily $280 properties. I’d say 0.3 cents each is more fair.

  3. Doesn’t seem like too bad a promotion to me. With my Gold status and booking on a mobile app, that’s easily close to 10,000 points for one night (my travel pattern is usually one night on a weekend).

  4. These computations of “marginal returns” based on an estimated and likely wrong REDEMPTION value of 0.4 cent per point is mindless and looking a gift horse in the mouth.

If you patronize CC, this promo offers you the opportunity to earn loads and loads of points. Change your plans so that you stay as often as you can at CC properties during the promo period, and, importantly, make sure you also have the Club Carlson Visa Signature card that will get you additional 10 points/$. Throw in 75% or 35% of the bonus points that you would earn on base points as a CC Concierge or Gold elite, respectively, and you really rake it in. People who patronize HHonors are familiar with promos like this one, which are seldom offered by the bloggers’ favorite programs (HGP, SPG) so they really lack full appreciation of the huge number of points that one can earn from a promo like this one by CC.

    A no-brainer really…
