FlyingBlue’s March Promo Awards — Save On Business Class

In the interest of full disclosure, One Mile At A Time earns a referral bonus for anyone that’s approved through some of the below links. One of the best uses of Air France/KLM FlyingBlue miles is booking their Promo Awards. FlyingBlue publishes these every month, and they offer 20-50% off select award tickets on Air France and KLM metal. Back in the day Promo Awards would consistently be for 50% off and would have a good number of options in business class, though unfortunately they’ve devalued the promotion somewhat since then, and the discounts now vary.

However, there are still some great deals to be had. FlyingBlue just published their latest Promo Awards. These are valid for bookings made between March 1 and March 31, 2016, and for travel between May 1 and June 30, 2016.

Air France A380

This Promo Award period has fewer North American cities than usual, which shouldn’t come as a surprise, since we’re starting to get into the summer travel season with this May through June booking window. FlyingBlue is offering 25% off business class awards to the following North American cities:

  • Europe to Edmonton / Business Class / KLM / 25% off
  • Europe to Mexico City / Business Class / Air France / 25% off

This brings the one-way business class cost for awards between Edmonton/Mexico City and Europe to 46,875 miles. Availability for the two cities in business class is quite good as well. For example, here’s availability between Mexico City and Paris in May and June:

While Air France has carrier imposed surcharges on award tickets, they’re not nearly as bad as those charged by British Airways. For example, a one-way business class award ticket from Mexico City to Paris will cost you ~$250, including taxes and fees.

While Promo Awards to North America are fairly weak this period, there are some great offers to other regions. Not surprisingly, there are several good Promo Awards for travel to the Middle East:

Because who doesn’t love Abu Dhabi in summer? 😉

Other “off season” regions offer good opportunities as well.

For context, here are some of the Promo Awards we’ve seen since last year:

Be sure to check out the full listing of Promo Awards, as there are plenty of Promo Awards available.

As a reminder, FlyingBlue is transfer partners with Amex Membership Rewards and Citi ThankYou, meaning you can transfer points earned from multiple cards:

KLM A330

Bottom line

While the Promo Awards aren’t valuable to everyone, if they coincide with travel you have planned, they’re a good deal. Hopefully some of you can take advantage of them, whether it’s one of the two North American destinations, or for travel to another region.

Do you plan on taking advantage of one of FlyingBlue’s Promo Awards?

Although it may come a surprise, but Montreal has been historically one of, if not, the most popular destination in Canada for KLM. This comes from the time they operated to Mirabel (Montreal’s old airport-still active) as well as the fact that KLM operates its bus from Montreal airport to the Ottawa train station and return, thus providing Ottawa bound passengers a “direct” ticket from Europe. KLM actually operated Ottawa back in the late 90s via Halifax. You actually get miles credited for taking the KLM bus, if i remember correctly, the flight number is KL4000 and KL4001 heading to Montreal. Air France, Swiss, and if nothing has changed British Airways also operate their own branded buses.

Don’t doubt Montreal is popular, if fact it’s so popular that it’s not on the promo list!

Correct should be Edmonton and Mexico, like on the screenshot Lucky posted and on AF website.

My mistake. I thought your comment was that of surprise that Montreal is on the list (well it usually is).
