As I’ve written about extensively, the sign-up bonus on the Citi ThankYou® Premier Card will be changing later today. I have to take down my links by 5PM ET on 1/28/2016, and the offer could very well be pulled before then, so if you want to apply I’d suggest doing so before 4PM ET. The thing is that I don’t actually know what will be changing about the offer. It could be the amount of the sign-up bonus, the minimum spend, the annual fee, etc.

Currently the sign-up bonus is 50,000 bonus ThankYou Points after spending $4,000 in purchases within three months of account opening. The card has a $95 annual fee, which is waived for the first year.

Not only does the Citi ThankYou® Premier Card have a great sign-up bonus, but it also offers a fantastic return on everyday spend, arguably among the best out there:

  • 3x points on travel
  • 3x points on gas
  • 2x points on dining out and entertainment
  • 1x point on all other purchases

It’s one of the two credit cards I use most for everyday spend nowadays, along with the Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card. The card also nicely complements the Citi Prestige® Card, which I consider to be the all around best card out there right now in terms of perks.

Like I said, we don’t officially know what the offer will change to, but I did receive two comments (one in the comments section and one by email) from readers who said they visited Citi’s website a couple of nights ago, which said the offer for the Premier Card was 40,000 points after spending $3,000. I can’t vouch for this personally, because by the time I checked the offer showed as 50,000 points. But if I had to guess — and it’s baseless speculation on my part — I suspect that’s what the offer will be changing to.

Bottom line

The Citi ThankYou® Premier Card is extremely compelling, so I’d highly recommend taking advantage of the current offer for 50,000 points upon completing minimum spend. In conjunction with the Citi Prestige® Card, those 50,000 points can be redeemed for $625+ worth of travel. Or you can transfer those points to one of Citi’s airline transfer partners, like Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, and redeem for flights in Suites Class.

Do you think the sign-up bonus will change to 40,000 points upon minimum spend, or do you have another theory?

  1. I was able to get to an application that shows it is dropping to 40,000 points after $3k spend in 3 months.
