FlyingBlue 10th Anniversary Promo Awards Extended

Every month Air France/KLM FlyingBlue publishes Promo Awards, whereby awards between select regions are available for 25-50% off. This represents a great value, though over the years the lists of eligible routes have certainly become less extensive.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Promo Awards, FlyingBlue had a special limited time promotion, which was supposed to be valid for bookings made December 1-10, 2015.

It’s worth noting that the 10th anniversary Promo Awards have been extended for bookings through December 20, 2015. The list of eligible travel dates remains the same — the promo is valid for travel January 15 through March 15, 2016.

There are 28 eligible markets, all of which are offering 50% off economy awards. See my previous post for a full listing of the markets, though the US markets include the following:

  • Europe to Atlanta / Air France & KLM / 12,500 miles
  • Europe to Boston / Air France / 12,500 miles
  • Europe to Houston / Air France & KLM / 12,500 miles
  • Europe to New York JFK / Air France & KLM / 12,500 miles
  • Europe to Washington Dulles / Air France & KLM / 12,500 miles

Air France A380 economy class

While I in theory prefer redeeming for premium cabin awards, there’s no denying that this represents an exceptional value. While Air France & KLM have some carrier imposed surcharges on awards, they’re quite reasonable. For example, 12,500 miles plus ~$78 for a one-way ticket from Atlanta to Paris is pretty tough to beat.

Availability is also wide open in economy at the saver level, so you should have no trouble booking your choice of travel dates during the two month window.

Keep in mind that Air France FlyingBlue is a transfer partner with both American Express Membership Rewards and Citi ThankYou, so there are several ways to get the needed points into your account.

Bottom line

If you’re looking to travel between the US and Europe as inexpensively as possible this winter/spring, this is a deal which is tough to beat. And now you have another ~10 days to take advantage of this deal.

Do you plan on taking advantage of FlyingBlue’s 10th anniversary promo?

  1. This sounded great but then I compared two options:

    1) AirFrance, for a Boston – Eastern Europe round-trip ticket: 25k miles + about $240 in fuel and other taxes (somebody forgot to tell AirFrance that the price of oil has crashed a year ago).

    2) Turkish Airlines: $560, all taxes included. Also, you can check-in two pieces of luggage for free.

So those 25k miles are worth $560-$240=$320, or 1.2 cents per mile. That’s very poor for AirFrance, considering that I was able to book business class tickets with them, last Summer, for about 2.2 cents per mile.

    I think I’ll pass.
