Starwood’s Bonus For Visiting All SPG Brands Just Got Better

In late September I wrote about a pretty awesome targeted promotion Starwood was offering, allowing you to earn bonus Starpoints for visiting all 10 SPG brands over the course of the calendar year. The bonus was available in the SPG Dashboard, which is a customized webpage which shows you all kinds of stats about your account, as well as some bonuses you may not be aware of.

The bonus I wrote about at the time offered 10,000 bonus Starpoints for staying at all 10 SPG brands. Given that I value Starpoints at ~2.2 cents each, that bonus was worth ~$220 to me. At the time I had visited six of the 10 brands, and while I could easily enough squeeze in a Four Points, Element, and Aloft stay, checking out one of the Tribute Portfolio properties would have been more of a challenge.

Starwood recently announced Design Hotels as their 11th brand, which is a collection of independent hotels. It’s more of a marketing partnership than an integrated partnership, as you can’t yet redeem Starpoints at those hotels, and elite benefits don’t apply.

On the plus side, SPG has changed the brand bonus for the better. Previously your only option was to stay at all 10 brands and earn 10,000 Starpoints. Now you can:

  • Stay at 9 brands, earn 9,000 bonus Starpoints
  • Stay at 10 brands, earn 10,000 bonus Starpoints
  • Stay at 11 brands, earn 11,000 bonus Starpoints

I had my first Aloft stay of the year recently, so this is great news, as I’ve now stayed at seven brands. If I just stay at two more brands I’ll earn 9,000 bonus Starpoints. Keep in mind that this bonus potentially stacks with:

Bottom line

Previously I had sort of written off the promotion offering 10,000 bonus Starpoints after staying at all 10 brands. I would have struggled to make it to a Tribute Portfolio property in the coming weeks, and there aren’t that many anyway. But now they lowered the threshold by allowing you earn 9,000 bonus Starpoints for staying at nine brands. That’s more realistic for me.

I guess I’ll be staying at a Four Points and either an Element or Tribute Portfolio property over the next few weeks.

Were you targeted for the same promotion, and do the eased restrictions impact whether or not you’ll go for it?

  1. @Fred,

IMO, it’s not about the the $220 per say. By doing all the “crazy” things Lucky does he has a very interesting website and thus lots of readers which leads to Advertising/credit card referral/award booking $$$$$.

  2. If I book a stay on points does it count as as a stay towards this promotion? I stayed at a luxury collection hotel on points in December and it doesn’t reflect on my dashboard. Are the only stays reflected on the dashboard ones that I use $ to pay for?
