Up To 10,000 Bonus Starpoints For Tribute Portfolio Stays

In April Starwood announced their tenth hotel brand, called Tribute Portfolio. The brand’s motto is “Stay Independent,” as it’s Starwood’s second independent hotel brand, after The Luxury Collection.

The first Tribute property was the Royal Palm South Beach Miami. While I haven’t had the chance to stay there, it doesn’t seem to have been especially well received so far. The member ratings of the hotel are pitiful (just 2.8 out of 5 stars), the rates have fallen significantly since the hotel rebranded, and it has even shifted from a Category 6 to Category 5 property.

Anyway, the Tribute Portfolio brand is growing, as Starwood has just opened their first Tribute Portfolio property in London, and will be opening another one in Palm Springs next month. Here’s how they’re described:

New! Great Northern Hotel, London, England, UK, is an exquisitely designed, luxury boutique hotel in the heart of King’s Cross St. Pancras.

Coming in November — Riviera Palm Springs, California, USA, is remodeled and reinvented. Surround yourself with palm trees, pools and spectacular vistas.

Royal Palm South Beach Miami, Florida, USA, is an iconic, oceanfront oasis north of world-famous Ocean Drive and just steps from vibrant South Beach.

To celebrate the growth of Tribute Portfolio, Starwood is offering bonus points for stays at Tribute Portfolio properties this fall. This promotion is very similar to the promotion they announced when the brand first launched in April.

To celebrate the rebranding of the Great Northern Hotel, Starwood is offering up to 10,000 bonus Starpoints for Tribute Portfolio stays between October 12 and December 20, 2015.

Through this promotion, members who register can earn 2,000 bonus Starpoints per Tribute Portfolio stay, for up to five stays.

Registration is required, and bonus Starpoints should post within two to four weeks of when the qualifying stay posts. Full terms of the promotion can be found here.

I value Starpoints at ~2.2 cents each, so to me the bonus is worth ~$44 per stay. Keep in mind that this promotion can be stacked with Starwood’s “Stay For More” promotion, whereby you can earn double Starpoints on stays of two or more nights, and double Starpoints plus 500 Starpoints for stays of three or more nights.

Furthermore, Starwood is offering targeted bonuses for those who stay at all 10 Starwood brands over the course of a year. I have an offer for 10,000 bonus Starpoints if I stay at all 10 brands, and for me the toughest brand to stay at is Tribute Portfolio, given how few properties there are.

I love Palm Springs, so might try to check out the Riveria Palm Springs, which has cheap rates. Then again, I have a hard time staying anywhere but The Parker in Palm Springs, given what a gorgeous and quirky hotel it is.

Bottom line

While I don’t think any of these individual promotions add so much value to a Tribute Portfolio stay that it could be considered a “mattress run,” it certainly helps increase the value you can get out of a Tribute Portfolio stay.

I’m sort of surprised Starwood hasn’t offered a richer promotion in conjunction with the new Tribute Portfolio, given the slow pace at which the brand is being rolled out, and also the fairly lackluster reviews of the first property. It would be cool to see a promotion which would actually make it worthwhile to try to visit all three of the properties, or something.

Do you plan on staying at a Tribute Portfolio property anytime soon?

  1. I’ve stayed at the Riviera several times. It caters more towards the party crowd so there is a lot of visible wear and tear around the hotel, be it the hallways, in room furniture, pool chairs, etc. Service can also be iffy when it gets crowded. Having said that, my stays have been fairly enjoyable if you don’t mind that scene. It’s obviously much quieter during the weekdays.
