Targeted: $80 Off A $400+ W Hotel Stay With Amex Offers

One of the most overlooked benefits of American Express cards are Amex Offers, which can in many cases help you earn back your annual fee over and over again (and they’re even available on Amex’s no annual fee cards). For example:

Those are just four examples which saved me $295.

To access some of these offers, simply log into your online account and scroll to the bottom of your card summary page, where you’ll see a section titled “Amex Offers & Benefits.”

There are often dozens of offers available at a time, though not everyone is going to find all of them useful. And for that matter, different accounts seem to show different offers.

There’s an awesome new Amex Offer today for us Starwood fans. It’s targeted, so not all accounts will be eligible, though many do seem to be.

You can receive $80 back when you spend $400+ at a W property in the US between September 15 and December 31, 2015.

A couple of my Amex cards seem to be targeted for this promotion, the basic details of which are as follows:

Get a one-time $80 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend $400 or more on room rate and room charges, when you pay for your stay with W Hotels from 9/15/15 to 12/31/15. See terms for brand exclusions.

In my case, both my Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card and Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express are targeted, while my Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express and Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express aren’t. In my case those are the same cards which were eligible for the recent Westin promotion.

Usually I’d use one of the latter two to pay for my SPG hotel stays (since I earn two Starpoints per dollar spent), though I’ll gladly use the EveryDay Preferred Card and earn 1.5 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent while saving the $80 on a $400+ stay.

Keep in mind that registration is limited, so if you’re eligible you’ll want to register sooner rather than later if you think you can take advantage of this promotion.

Unfortunately this promotion doesn’t seem to be available via Twitter yet (some Amex Offers can be registered for through Twitter, in which case all cards would be eligible). It’s possibly that will still happen, though I wouldn’t count on it.

For what it’s worth, here are the full terms and conditions of the promotion:

Get a one-time $80 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend $400 or more on room rate and room charges, when you pay for your stay with W Hotels from 9/15/15 to 12/31/15. See terms for brand exclusions.

Check to make sure prepaid cards are accepted before attempting to use your prepaid card to take advantage of offers for these merchants. Corporate Cards are not eligible for this offer. Enrollment limited. Must add offer to Card and use same Card to redeem. Only US-issued American Express® Cards are eligible for this offer. Limit 1 statement credit per American Express Card across all American Express offer channels. Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 12/31/2015, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase. Note that American Express may not receive information about your qualifying purchase from merchant until all items from your qualifying purchase have been provided/shipped by merchant. Statement credit may be reversed if qualifying purchase is returned/cancelled. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as qualifying for the offer, you will not receive the statement credit. For example, your transaction will not qualify if it is not made directly with the merchant. In addition, in most cases, you will not receive the statement credit if your transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party or if the merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process it. By adding an offer to a Card, you agree that American Express may send you communications about the offer. POID: BVYY:0001

Bottom line

These Amex Offers add a ton of value to American Express cards, and are always worth keeping an eye on. I stay mostly at SPG and Hyatt properties, so this promotion will literally put $80 back in my pocket.

In the coming weeks I’ll be saving ~$130 on my SPG stays.

Were you targeted for the Amex Offer for $80 off a W Hotel stay of $400 or more?

(Tip of the hat to Deals We Like)

Non-Affiliate Product Disclaimer: The information for the AmEx Everyday Preferred has been collected independently by One Mile At A Time. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

  1. Do you know if the promotion works buying an SPG gift card? The fine print doesn’t seem to exclude the possibility.

  2. Difficult to justify $400 on a W hotel. Perhaps if was spend $300 and get $80 back we’d be talking. The W in DC for instance is a cat 5 (16,000pts) and goes for over $400 on a week night. So better deal to use points rather than cash if can.

  3. Looks like a LOT of exclusions to me. This is the kind of promotion I fall for and then find out too late that I somehow failed to dot some “i ” somewhere. Not worth the risk for me.
