5,000 Bonus Gold Points Per Club Carlson Stay This Summer

Club Carlson has just massively devalued their program by eliminating the second night free benefit on their co-branded credit card and adjusting the categories of their most popular hotels, raising the cost of many redemptions by 40%.

And they’re back with another promotion for more Gold Points… yay?

Club Carlson is offering elite members 5,000 bonus Gold Points when they book eligible stays by May 31, 2015, for stays between June 1 and July 31, 2015.

In order to be eligible you must be an elite member at the time of your stay, and be booked on an eligible rate. That excludes award stays and Points + Cash stays. There’s no registration required to take part in the promotion, and the bonus points should post at the same time as you regular points from the stay do.

I value Club Carlson Gold Points at ~0.4 cents each. Perhaps more like ~0.3 cents each after the devaluation. So that’s like an additional return of ~$15 per Club Carlson stay, by my valuation. There’s no limit to how often you can earn the bonus points through this promotion.

Keep in mind that Club Carlson lets you stack promotions, so this can be stacked with many of their other promotions. For example, through June 28, 2015, Club Carlson is offering triple points plus 1,000 bonus points per booking through their app, which is quite rewarding already. So the added bonus of 5,000 points per stay is pretty awesome.

Here are the full terms of the promotion:

* The 5K Elite Summer Bonus Point Promotion (“Promotion”) is valid for 5,000 bonus Gold Points® (“Bonus Points”) on each Eligible Stay booked between May 4, 2015 and May 31, 2015 and completed between June 1, 2015 and July 31, 2015. You must be a Club CarlsonSM Elite member at the time of reservation to participate in the Promotion. “Eligible Stay” is defined in the Club Carlson Terms and Conditions. Stays paid for using Points + Cash are not eligible for this Promotion. Bonus Points will be credited when the standard Gold Points are credited for the Eligible Stay. Club Carlson reserves the right to add, modify, or discontinue the Promotion with or without notice. Void where prohibited by law. By participating in this Promotion, you agree and consent to these Terms and Conditions and the Club Carlson Terms and Conditions.

Bottom line

Club Carlson was unarguably too generous and unsustainable before the devaluation. So I guess we should get used to the way they do business. Award way more points than any other program, and devalue the program severely every so often to put things back into equilibrium.

Now that our expectations have been managed, at least…

  1. Of course, a lot of elites are going to be ex-elites once they dump those cards, unless they are big Country Inn and Suites fans…

  2. Is this likely to stack with the one-time 30K bonus for being a cardholder? If I stay one night in June I could get 30K (card), 5K (this bonus), 1K (app), as well as the triple point promo?

  3. @ O — Yep, I expect all of those promotions would stack. Not bad for a cheap stay.

  4. As far as I’m concerned, they just devalued their promotion. With BOGO and the old categories this could have been interesting. Not anymore…..

  5. Any idea how long the 30k points take to post? I stayed in a domestic CC about a week ago, and only the regular points have posted. Normally, I’d be less suspicious, but they’re not exactly engendering trust right now.

  6. @ Christian — Technically they say the points will post after the promotion period is over, so it could be a while.
