As I first posted about several weeks ago, Daily Getaways is back earlier than normal this year, and is a great opportunity to purchase hotel points and travel packages at a discount. It’s sponsored by the US Travel Association, and every weekday for five weeks they’re offering discounted travel packages.

So far we’ve seen many promotions from some of the major hotel chains, though so far they’ve been focused primarily on opportunities to buy hotel points and hotel stay packages. Today we’re seeing an opportunity to purchase hotel gift cards at a discount.

Today at 1PM you’ll have the opportunity to purchase Marriott gift cards for 20% off.

Buy Marriott gift cards for 20% off

Here’s a chart with the various gift cards on sale:

Number Of PointsPackage CostSavingsNumber Of Packages
$1,000 Marriott gift card$80020% off 75
$100 Marriott gift card$8020% off410
$500 Marriott gift card$40020% off308

As you can see, there are roughly 800 gift cards for sale, and they’re all available for 20% off. If you stay at Marriott properties with any frequency, then buying one of these gift cards is a no brainer, in my opinion.

For what it’s worth, these are eGiftCards (which will be delivered electronically) don’t expire.

Which credit card to use?

Keep in mind Daily Getaways purchases are processed by Daily Getaways, and not by Marriott directly. In other words, if you’re using this promotion to buy gift cards, your purchase will be processed by Daily Getaways and not by Marriott directly (therefore it doesn’t count as hotel spend).

However, Daily Getaways is considered a “travel” provider, so you can still earn bonus points for your Daily Getaways purchases:

Bottom line

Getting 20% off a hotel stay is a great value, especially since these gift cards don’t expire. If you expect to stay at a Marriott in the near future on your own dime, I’d absolutely consider taking advantage of this promotion.

  1. @lucky,
I have a reservation for a Marriott (in Europe) that is around €480’ish per night. If I buy a $1000 gift card, what do they use for conversion? I only previously used Marriott gift cards in San Juan, USD gift card for a USD folio.

  2. Hi Ben,

Will I still earn 10points per dollar on room charges when paying with the gift card?

  3. @ J. — They don’t. See the section of the post about which credit cards to use for tips on which credit card to use for the purchase. 😀

  4. @ tim — I don’t believe so. The terms say the following:
“Marriott eGiftCards can be used like cash at over 4,000 participating properties, including any JW Marriott®, EDITIONSM, Autograph Collection®, Renaissance® Hotels, AC by MarriottSM, Marriott® Hotels & Resorts, Gaylord Hotels®, Courtyard® by Marriott, Fairfield Inn & Suites® by Marriott, SpringHill Suites® by Marriott, Residence Inn® by Marriott, TownePlace Suites® by Marriott, and Marriott Vacation ClubSM (rentals only), worldwide.”

  5. @ baccarat_guy — They use the hotel’s daily currency conversion rate at the hotel to determine the amount. How close that is to the actual exchange rate probably varies a bit.

  6. The terms and conditions say it will be delivered within 10-14 business days. I have a stay next weekend I want to use it for. Does anyone know if Daily Getaways usually delivers earlier than expected?

  7. Thanks for the heads up. Managed to grab one of the $1k gift cards. As a regular Marriott guest this is just free money!

  8. Thanks for the heads-up on this one!

Unfortunately for me, it’s now April 18th (my fault), but I would have been all over this. Marriott and Hyatt get about 95% of my company’s hotel business.

  9. I was online ready to purchase and still couldn’t get one:(. I’m amazed at how quickly these deals are going. Couldn’t get in on the Hyatt one either!
