Five Miles & Points Deals To Take Advantage Of By December 31, 2014

I have a tendency to procrastinate, or at least not prioritize things that aren’t important on a day-to-day basis. With the end of the year quickly approaching, I just wanted to make a quick list of miles and points tasks that I need to complete by the end of the year, and figured I’d share in case anyone else is in the same boat.

In no particular order:

Then there are a few “buy points” promotions:

None of these are particularly lucrative, so I wouldn’t make speculative purchases.

If you need a handful of points to top off for an award it’s better to get a discount than not though!

In terms of elite status, I always like to go through my various hotel and airline accounts and make sure I received credit for stays and flights, in addition to “auditing” my points balances.

I’m missing some points from a stay at the Park Hyatt Washington DC, for example

If something didn’t post, it’s easier to take care of it before the qualification period ends, in my experience.

Bottom line

None of these are particularly time-consuming (with the exception of booking Delta SkyMiles awards, of course), but it’s worth taking the few minutes to get everything wrapped up by the end of the year.

What about you? What year-end miles and points tasks will you be finishing up in the next couple of days?

  1. @ Ben — You might also want to remind people to watch out for expiring AA Business ExtrAA and DL SkyBonus points since these always expire at December 31. I got burned on this last year!

  2. Hi Ben, quick one for all interested or needing US Dividend Miles, they currently offer a 10% discount on the purchase price until Jan 2nd, so you can actually buy 125.000 for 2.318 USD = 1,86 cent p. Mile. See you soon!

  3. @Lantean: well i logged in to purchase 125K miles and was offered a 10% discount on the purchasing price. Maybe a targeted promo as it came up after login?

  4. Well i loggend into my US account to purchase miles and i was offered a 10% discount on the purchasing price, valid Dec 15th thru Jan 2nd. Maybe targeted as i came after login, know of others that were offered that 10% as well.

  5. also, if you got newegg offer on your amex cards, you can buy hyatt gift cards at 12.5% off… not as good as buying hyatt cards with open, but not bad once this promo expires.

  6. Though it’s unlikely too many people care to take advantage (given the high price and difficulty of booking), there is also a Dec 31 deadline on booking Delta round-the-world award tickets.

  7. Qantas have 3 points per $ spent on vouchers plus you can use a points earning CC and get points for the flights you eventually use them on.
