Alaska Mileage Plan Winter Award Sale

Alaska Airlines’ Mileage Plan is offering a winter award sale for bookings made through January 8, 2015.

The promotion is valid for economy award redemptions on Alaska Airlines flights between January 6 and March 5, 2015. You can find the full listing of eligible markets on the Alaska winter award sale webpage, where the sale is organized by city.

For example, out of Seattle you can book awards for just 5,000 miles one-way to Bend, Boise, Oakland, San Francisco, and San Jose.

There are some 12,500 mile one-way awards available between the mainland and Hawaii as well, including between Oakland and Maui.

Award availability on Alaska metal is generally very good, though it is route dependent. The good thing is that they’re pretty good about releasing award space both in advance and close to departure, so regardless of what kind of planner you are, you might have luck with this promotion.

Alaska Mileage Plan seems to run promotions similar to this every so often. For example, they offered a similar fall promotion a couple of months ago.

Now, there are lots of great uses of Alaska Mileage Plan miles, as I’ve written about in the past. For example, my preference is to redeem Mileage Plan miles on Cathay Pacific and Emirates. That being said, for shorthaul last minute tickets, there are some great values to be had here. That’s especially true since Alaska Mileage Plan doesn’t charge close-in award ticketing fees, so you can literally book day of departure and pay just the discounted mileage plus taxes.

British Airways Avios can also be a great value for redemptions on Alaska Airlines, though in many cases Alaska Mileage Plan is even cheaper than British Airways Executive Club when factoring in this promotion.

Bottom line

If I still lived in Seattle I’d likely be taking advantage of this promotion for some last minute weekend getaways to escape the rain and gloominess.

But, alas, I no longer live there…

Hopefully some others can take advantage of the promo, though!
