Earlier I wrote about how Club Carlson is offering a Cyber Monday 100% bonus on purchased points.

I figured I’d post a quick update that this deal is now live, through 11:59PM CST today, Monday, December 1, 2014.

The catch — which wasn’t initially clarified — is that you’re limited to receiving a 100% bonus on 10,000 points. That means that through this promotion you can receive a maximum of 20,000 points for $70, which is 0.35 cents per point.

The maximum number of points you can purchase per calendar year with Club Carlson is 40,000, so if you maxed out the 75% bonus on purchased points earlier this year, you wouldn’t be eligible for this bonus.

Anyway, I think picking up Club Carlson points for 0.35 cents is a good deal. If you have the Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa Signature® Card, then it’s an exceptional deal, as the second night of every award redemption is free, which potentially doubles the value of your points. I do wish they were offering the 100% bonus on up to the annual limit of purchased points, though unfortunately they aren’t.

Club Carlson points purchases are processed by, so wouldn’t qualify for hotel spend as far as your credit card is concerned. Therefore you’re best off putting the purchase on a card that maximizes your points for everyday, non-bonused spend.

Are you buying Club Carlson points with their Cyber Monday promo?

  1. OT but…. Lifemiles have what appears to be a cyber Monday deal. 25% extra on top of the current 100% promo…

  2. Already maxed out the bonus in July (?) that gave 70,000 points at 0.4c per point. I imagine that people who are serious about collecting CC points already did the same. Oh well. I guess I left 2500 points on the table.

Just burned 100,000 points this weekend for 4 nights at a hotel that cost $330 per night when I booked. 1.34c per point!

  3. For people who have maxed out the promo (like me) earlier, remember that in-household transfers are free as long as both members’ accounts have been open for a year

  4. @ Robbo — Whoops, thanks! Wrote about it right away this morning before checking comments, though thanks for the heads up!

  5. This doesn’t count towards the annual 40K point purchase maximum

This offer applies to Gold Points purchased on December 1, 2014 from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. CST (“Promotion Date”). Gold Points purchased on the Promotion Date will receive a bonus equal to 100% for purchases between 1,000 to 10,000 Gold Points. Any points purchased on the Promotion Date for any one account for over the 10,000 point maximum will not be eligible for the bonus points. There is a limit of 10,000 bonus points per member. Bonus Gold Points will not apply to the annual 40,000 Gold Point purchase maximum. Bonus Gold Points and purchased Gold Points will be posted to the member’s Club Carlson account as one transaction within 2-5 days of purchase. This offer does not apply to points purchased as a gift. In addition, the purchase and use of Gold Points are subject to the Points Purchase Terms and Conditions and the Club Carlson Terms and Conditions.

  6. Err forget what I just said. Even though it says clearly “Bonus Gold Points will not apply to the annual 40,000 Gold Point purchase maximum” as part of the terms of this promo it still won’t let me complete the purchase 🙁

  7. @ Eugene — I think they’re saying the bonus points (100% bonus in this case) doesn’t apply to the limit, as is the norm.

  8. How well are they enforcing the 10,000 limit across all transactions, i.e. if you do buy 10,000 points four times will they catch that?

  9. Note that, if you have both the personal and business credit cards, you have two separate Club Carlson accounts. You can buy up to 40,000 miles/year for each account – 80,000 total, plus bonuses.

  10. @ Lucky — you are correct as usual. The system automatically tracks the bonus so further purchased are possible but would not get the extra points.
