Amazing Deal: Nearly Free Hotel Stays Via Orbitz

Orbitz is offering $100 off select hotel stays of $100 or more when using Visa Checkout.

The promotion is valid when you book a qualifying, pre-paid standalone hotel for a stay between December 1, 2014, and June 30, 2015. You must use Visa Checkout as the method of payment, and use promotion code VISACHECKOUT. Using Visa Checkout is pretty easy, so that requirement shouldn’t be a limiting factor for anyone.

As I said above, this won’t be valid for most chain hotels. When you enter the promo code and go to the search page, you’ll automatically see eligible hotels listed as being “PROMO CODE ELIGIBLE.” The discounted price will then be displayed on the next page.

For example, the Hyland Motel Van Nuys is ~$51 per night, so using this promo code for a two night stay knocks down the rate to ~$1 per night pre-tax.

I’m not suggesting you stay at a motel in Van Nuys, but there are plenty of other great standalone properties where this discount will be valuable.

Orbitz and Visa Checkout are picking up the tab on “over a million dollars of hotel rooms” through this promotion, so presumably at least 10,000 people can use the promotion code. I would expect this will be quite a popular promotion, though, so I’d recommend making a booking sooner rather than later.

Here are the basic terms of the promotion:

Offer is valid for a limited time only and is only available when displayed on  Available on desktop, mobile web, and on Orbitz mobile apps that include Visa Checkout as a payment option. Book a qualifying standalone, pre-paid hotel for $100 or more for a stay occurring between December 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015 via Orbitz using Visa Checkout as the payment method and promo code VISACHECKOUT, and receive $100 off your booking.  Most major chains are excluded; to find participating hotels look for the “PROMO CODE ELIGIBLE” message on hotel listings. You must enter your promotion code prior to completing your booking to receive the savings; promotion codes cannot be applied to bookings previously made. Limit one discount per hotel room and one promotion code per booking. Discounts are not redeemable for cash for any reason. Promotion codes are non-transferrable, not for resale, and cannot be combined with other offers. Any attempt at fraud will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Void where prohibited, taxed or restricted. Orbitz reserves the right to change or limit the promotion in its sole discretion.

Do you plan on taking advantage of the Orbitz & Visa Checkout promotion? If so, what hotel did you book?

  1. I tried to use this for Hong Kong, but for some reason it says “We’re sorry the promo code you entered is not valid for this destination” even though the terms don’t specify any destinations. So I used it for Taipei instead — thanks!

  2. I just used it for a 1 night stay near LAX. Already had a Hyatt My Elite Rate booked nearby and in the end this is only gonna save me about $40.

  3. I couldn’t find anything against making 3 1 night bookings. I booked a $280 hotel for $100 a night for 3 nights.

  4. I managed to get a Paris hotel roughly 30 mins ago. I then tried another booking but then it sold out. :/

  5. After the deal launch they updated the promo terms to say that the deal would only be active starting at 10AM until the deal was exhausted. I had experienced major sluggishness and issues filtering out the wheat from the chaff, but I managed to book a few one-night $100 stays in Japan before they shut it down.
