Silvercar Offering Up To $200 Referral Credit

I’ve written in the past about Silvercar, which is an innovative new car rental service that has the potential to do to the car rental industry what Uber did to the taxi/car service industry.

What makes Silvercar unique is that they only have one type of car — an Audi A4 — which comes with a bunch of cool features, including:

  • Free GPS
  • Free wifi
  • Free satellite radio
  • Fair toll tracking
  • Reasonable fuel plan (if you choose not to fill up your car you pay the local pump price plus a $5 fill-up fee)

Furthermore, Silvercar eliminates the lines when picking up a car. When you download their app you can just go directly to the car and use the app to unlock the car.

The one downside is that Silvercar doesn’t have that many locations yet. So far they’re only available in:

  • Austin, Texas (AUS)
  • Dallas Love Field, Texas (DAL)
  • Dallas Ft. Worth, Texas (DFW)
  • Denver, Colorado (DEN)
  • Los Angeles, California (LAX)
  • Miami, Florida (MIA)
  • Phoenix, Arizona (PHX)
  • San Francisco, California (SFO)

How to get $200 in referral credit

Silvercar is currently offering $100 for every new customer that rents a Silvercar for two days or more using your personal code, now through the end of the year.

On top of that, if you refer five people they’re offering a further $500. So you’re getting $200 for each of those five people you refer!

The email blast notes that there’s “no limit to the amount of credit you can earn,” but I’m seeking clarification on if the $500 bonus is for every five people you refer or just the first five. Either way, it’s a potentially very lucrative deal.

How Silvercar referral credit works

Unlike other companies, Silvercar pays in the form of Visa gift cards. This isn’t like Uber where the referral bonus comes in the form of more credit with the company, but rather you’re getting a Visa electronic gift card which will be sent out within 30 days of the end of the month when the rental is completed.

So if you’ve referred people to Silvercar be sure to keep an eye on the spam folder in your email. Do keep in mind it takes them a while to pay, as you only get paid 30 days from the end of the month when the rental is completed (not when the rental is booked). And there’s also not a way to track online how many people have rented using your referral link, but rather you can just tell when you receive the email.

If you haven’t yet used Silvercar or a referral code, simply go to the sign-up page on, and enter the “Referral Code” at the bottom of the page. If you’d like to use mine (which I’d of course be incredibly grateful for) it’s BSCHLAPPIG, though feel free to post yours below as well, and someone else can use it.

For those interested, the full terms are as follows:

  • $100 reward only earned upon the completion of a new customer rental of two days or more.
  • Qualifying referral reward payments will be made every Friday starting 11/14/2014 through 1/9/2015 with the exception of 12/26/2014 and 1/2/2015.
  • New customers are defined as anyone that has not previously completed a Silvercar transaction.
  • Qualifying transactions must be booked and started after 11/5/14 and on or before 12/31/14.
  • Existing reservations that are canceled and rebooked are not considered qualifying transactions.
  • Referral codes cannot  be applied (retroactive or otherwise) to started or finished transactions.
  • “Cash” will be paid in the form of a pre-paid Visa debit card offered through
  • As part of reward redemption, referrer has the option to select virtual debit card for immediate use or have physical card mailed to them.
  • For other terms and conditions visit or email

Has anyone used Silvercar yet? What was your experience?

  1. I’ve used it in Austin. It’s great. They pick you up at the airport (in an Audi of course). The cars are just 2 mins away from the airport. And the car is awesome! I really recommend it.

  2. Great now here comes the deluge of every blogger on BoardingArea posting their SilverCar referral codes. You lot are a greedy bunch. What happened to the day when bloggers earned money by posting interesting and useful content. Nowadays it seems like every Boarding Area blogger posts the same referral codes and affiliate links to just earn money for doing nothing.

  3. Just trying to piggyback on Lucky’s success here. It goes without saying, if anyone uses my code (GGoucher), I’d be incredibly grateful. Silvercar is based out of Austin which is where I live, and it really is a fantastic service. At the end of the day, the price usually comes out to be quite comparable to your normal rental car services….but you get an Audi instead.

  4. I used them in Miami. Great experience overall. The best for me was having wi-fi in the car. This is very valuable if you are not from the USA, and do not have an American cellular with data plan.

If anyone would use my referral code, I would be very thankful. It is RLEVY1.

  5. Looks like it’s every 5, because they explicitly say no caps on their website:

Surprising / disappointing that there doesn’t seem to be any benefit for the person referred though (unless I’m missing something). I would think it’d get more traction if it paid $50 to the referrer and $50 to the person referred. Where’s the incentive to sign up via referral vs. just going direct to

  6. I’ve had two great experience with Silvercar at LAX. Great cars with great features (satellite radio, navigation) for a reasonable price. Please use code BARTHURS if you’re so inclined.

  7. I used Silvercar in Austin. It was one of my best car rental experience. Thanks to Silvercar.

If intrested, feel free to use my code…SDEGALA

    Appreciate it.

  8. I had one my best car rental experience with silvercar in Austin. Great customer service.

I’ll appreciate if anyone want to use my referral code..SDEGALA

  9. Love Silvercar! Always priced similarly to the other rental companies for a much nicer cars. I try to use them as often as possible for business trips. *Shameless plug of referral link here* PMCCASLIN is my referral code if anyone wants to use it. I believe the people you refer get a $25 visa card and usually if it is your first rental they give you $50 off the rental but not sure if that still applies under this promotion.

  10. Seriously, do any of you think anyone reads the comments for a referral code to use? The only person who is going to benefit here is Lucky.

  11. “there’s also not a way to track online how many people have rented using your referral link, but rather you can just tell when you receive the email”. Seriously? That’s a pretty basic feature they should have included before they rolled out the first offer. Sounds like a convenient way for them to dodge paying you a referral, since you have no proof.

  12. I have used them at DFW and SFO. The SFO experience was a little odd on pick-up. I had to take the train to the rental car center, go outside and get picked-up by the courtesy car (A4), and drive into an industrial park where their office is located, about 5 minutes. The return was awesome because they drive you to the terminal in your rental and drop you at the gate.

  13. @Gary – I don’t think you mean “drop you at the GATE” do you? But rather “drop you at the TERMINAL”. Gate service would be fine, indeed! 😀

  14. Hi, thanks for the tips, just reserved Silvercar for my upcoming LAX trip. I used your referral code, if someone is inclined, please use mine as well!

    Thanks and happy traveling everyone!
