Through October 31, 2014, Club Carlson is offering up to a 30% bonus on the purchase of Gold Points.
Through this promotion they’re offering a 30% bonus if you purchase between 10,000 and 40,000 Gold Points during the promotion. The ordinary cost to purchase Gold Points is $7 per 1,000 points, up to 40,000 points per account per calendar year.
That means if you max out this promotion you can purchase a total of 52,000 points for $280, which is ~0.54 cents per point.
Earlier in the year Club Carlson ran a series of flash sales whereby points could be purchased with a 75% bonus, bringing down their cost to 0.4 cents per point. So my hope is that everyone took advantage of that promotion and has reached their annual cap on the purchase of points.
Ordinarily I value Club Carlson points at 0.4 cents each, so on the surface this isn’t a promotion I’d take advantage of. That being said, the single greatest thing about Club Carlson points is that if you have the Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa Signature® Card — which is easily one of the most lucrative hotel credit cards — the second night of your award redemption is free. So if you stay in the right increments, you can basically get half off award redemptions.
In the above example, you can purchase 52,000 points for $280. Nights at most of Club Carlson’s top hotels go for 50,000 points per night. So those $280 worth of points are enough for a free night at a Radisson Blu in London, which would cost 320 GBP per night (~$520). Then if you have the Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa Signature® Card, you’d get two nights for that many points, bringing down the cost per night to $140, which is tough to beat.
Hopefully you’ve already maxed out the number of points you can purchase per year thanks to the flash sale a while back. That being said, if you haven’t, this could be a good deal, because I wouldn’t necessarily count on a higher percentage bonus coming back this year. This is an especially compelling offer if you have the Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa Signature® Card.
