IHG PointBreaks September 2014 Preview

The most recent IHG Rewards Club’s PointBreaks preview was just posted in the IHG forum. The hotels on the list will be available for booking starting Monday, September 29, 2014, and will be valid for stays through Sunday, November 30, 2014.

IHG Rewards Club’s PointBreaks is traditionally one of the best promotions in the hotel industry.  Through this promotion, select hotels are available for just 5,000 points per night. Since IHG Rewards Club points can be indirectly purchased for 0.7 cents each, that’s like booking stays at certain hotels for just $35 per night.

Looking at the preview list there are roughly 175 hotels participating, and while the list could technically change prior to Monday, the properties involved are pretty lackluster.

Bottom line

Best I can tell, the only InterContinental on the list is in Nha Trang, Vietnam. Of course there are plenty of other decent properties on the list, so I’d recommend taking a look prior to Monday, so that you can lock in a stay as soon as the list goes “live” in case a property interests you.

(Tip of the hat to Mommy Points)

  1. I’m not sure who categorized this or if it’s IHG’s, but I figure Jerusalem, Israel would be more appropriately listed under Africa/Middle East with Amman.

  2. What time it’ll be up on Sept 29th? EST or CT or PST? I’m eyeballing Nha Trang already, will be there in November!

  3. Am I the only one who is stunned that an organization like IHG can never successfully alphabetize the state names? (Iowa in this round) People look at PointBreak lists with a destination in mind, and this multinational company fumbles on the list–again. It only takes one competent person to proof the list. IHG, hire that person, please!

  4. Avoid Nha Trang unless you want to be stuck in your hotel room all day and see tropical storms dump loads of rain on you.

  5. Wow, “lackluster” is actually a generous way of putting it. Not a single thing on this list that fits my travel plans, unfortunately. Oh well, there were really only two cities (Athens & Istanbul) which were going to be beneficial to me anyway, and what are the odds of both (or either) of those Intercontinental’s EVER making the list? I’ll hold out a (vain) hope that it does change by the time it goes live Monday, maybe for some of the smaller cities I’ll be passing through.

  6. @ Angie W — There’s usually not an exact time. It often goes live around 11AM ET or so, but it all depends. I’ll post as soon as I see it go live.
