Today, Monday, September 15th, is the first day to activate your 5% cash back bonus on the Chase Freedom® for the October through December period.

Keep in mind while it’s the first day to register, you can continue to earn the 5% bonus on the third quarter categories through September 30, 2014, and won’t start earning the 5% bonus on the fourth quarter categories until October 1st.

What makes the Chase Freedom® so great is that each quarter they have a different category where you earn 5% cash back. You earn the 5% cash back on up to $1,500 of spend in the bonus categories each quarter.

You can convert cash back into Ultimate Rewards points

Just to recap, you earn points on the Chase Freedom®, and each point can be redeemed for one cent cash back.

  1. So 5 miles per $ up to $1500 in XMAS spending. Plus I assume UR points earned purchasing from these stores can be stacked with shopping portal bonus points. So maybe 10 total points per $ buying from Nordstrom thru a portal. An extra 15K miles from purchases I was going to make anyway? Sure, I’ll happily take that. Time to go register…
