Starwood AmEx 30,000 Point Sign-Up Bonus Is Back!

In the interest of full disclosure, One Mile At A Time earns a referral bonus for anyone that’s approved through some of the below links. These are the best publicly available offers that we have found for each card. Please check out our advertiser policy for further details about the partners we work with. Thanks for your support!

UPDATE: This offer was only valid through June 30th, 2014. For current offers, please see theBest Credit Card tab.

The Starwood American Express is one of the most versatile credit cards out there, given that the points can efficiently be redeemed for both hotel stays and airline travel. That’s thanks to the number of airline transfer partners that Starwood has.

Historically the sign-up bonus on the Starwood American Express Card is 10,000 Starpoints after their first purchase on the card in addition to 15,000 Starpoints after they make $5,000 in purchases within their first six months of card membership.

In past years they’ve increase the sign-up bonus on the card once a year — typically around Labor Day — by 5,000 Starpoints. So instead of offering a total of 25,000 Starpoints after spending $5,000 within six months, they offer a total of 30,000 Starpoints.

It appears that American Express is bringing back the 30,000 Starpoint sign-up offer early this year for both the Personal and Business Cards, but only through June 30 for people referred by existing card members. So if you’d like to take advantage of this, please email me at with:

  • Your first and last name
  • Whether you’d like a referral for the personal or business card

If you’d like to refer someone else, here are the links:

Here’s the email I received from American Express:

As a Card Member, you know the value of your Starpoints® and the rich rewards you can get from the Starwood Preferred Guest® program. Now you can help spread the word to your friends, family and colleagues and earn 5,000 bonus Starpoints for each approved referral.1 The more friends you refer, the more Starpoints you can earn — up to 55,000 Starpoints per calendar year.

Your friends must apply for the Card through the REFER NOW buttons in the email and be approved in order for you to earn your Referral Bonus.

And for a limited time, each friend can earn up to 30,000 bonus Starpoints: 10,000 Starpoints after their first purchase on the Card in addition to 20,000 Starpoints after they make $5,000 in purchases within their first 6 months of Card Membership.2,3 Referrals need to occur by June 30, 2014 and your friend must be approved by June 30, 2014 to be eligible for this limited time offer.4

So if you’d like to receive a referral for the 30,000 Starpoint sign-up offer, please send me an email at and I’ll send out a referral to you ASAP. Alternatively, if you’d like to refer someone or be referred, at your own risk feel free to post your email below.

To be eligible for this offer, you must apply by June 30, 2014.

Bottom line

Whether you’re looking to apply for the Starwood American Express or looking to refer others, this is as good as the offer gets on this card.

  1. I do not have the SPG card, but I got the email with the same offer. Seems like it went out to all SPG members?

  2. @ Golfingboy — Have you tried logging into the AmEx website to refer someone? Not sure how you’d do that if you didn’t have the card.

  5. not to talk crap about the other bloggers, but posts like this one is why i love reading your stuff. very unselfish of you to reveal the links so that any of your readers can also receive the referral credit. all the other bloggers hide the links so the only way for readers to get the increased 30k offer is through referral from the blogger. thumbs up lucky!

  6. Hi Lucky!! In addition to the referral for the 30k, I just received a targeted email from SPG with an invitation/unique link to apply for the SPG card with a 30,000 bonus so no referral needed. It says I can apply four days early. I just got the email a few minutes ago. I am thinking this will go public next week. I don’t have the SPG card so I think this is only going to people that don’t have the card. I could be wrong.

  7. Can one get both personal and biz at the same time and get up to 60k star points in one shot?

  18. I just chatted with a broken English AmEx rep in regards to increasing my sign up bonus from 25,000 to the current 30,000, since I signed up for the AmEx SPG card last month, I thought it would be a no-brainer, but the rep said no, any suggestions, is it even possible with AmEx, I know it is easy at Chase.

  19. If you are looking for the PERSONAL version, I’ll be more than happy to send you a referral too!

I love how we all help each other to get points 😉

  20. If you are part of the Starwood Prefered Guest and don’t have a Starwood Credit Card, chances are you received a link to apply. Check your inbox!

  21. Did everyone who has a spg card get a refer a friend email for 30,000 points? I have an spg card and refer a friend is for 25,000.

  22. I have a personal card already. Can I still get a business card even tho I don’t have a business? Is one better then the other?
