Club Carlson Blockbuster promotion details

This promotion only applies for stays in the Asia Pacific region. You ordinarily earn 20 Gold Points per dollar spent on Club Carlson stays. Through this promotion you earn double points (40 points per dollar) for stays of one night, and triple points (60 points per dollar) for stays of two or more nights. There’s no limit to the number of bonus points you can earn during the promotion period, though you can earn no more than 100,000 points per stay.

Points + Cash stays and award stays are not eligible for this promotion.

Club Carlson Blockbuster promotion bottom line

Club Carlson already has amazing earnings rates for hotel stays, even when you don’t take into account this promotion.

Through the above promotion you earn 60 points per dollar spent at Club Carlson properties in the Asia Pacific region. If you’re a Gold member you earn an additional 7 points per dollar spent, and if you’re a Concierge member you earn an additional 15 points per dollar spent.

While Concierge status can be tough to achieve, you can get Gold status just for having the Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa Signature® Card. In addition to that you can earn an additional 10 points per dollar if you use your Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa Signature® Card to pay for the stay, though the catch is that it does have foreign transaction fees.

So as a Gold member that’s an easy 67 points per dollar spent, and if you use the Club Carlson Visa and eat the foreign transaction fee that’s 77 points per dollar spent. At 77 points per dollar you’d have to spend only ~$650 to earn 50,000 points. That’s enough for a free night at many top properties in London or Paris, and if you have the Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa Signature® Card the second night of your award redemption is free. That means spending $650 at a Club Carlson hotel in Asia would potentially earn you enough points for two free nights at a top hotel in Europe, which could easily retail for a lot more than that.

The only major downside is that Club Carlson is really weak in Asia. They have tons of properties in Europe and a growing number of properties in the US, but they’re still quite weak in Asia.

  1. Lucky, is there a list of the participating hotels? I just booked two award nights at a Radisson Blu in Sydney in June and I’m wondering if it would be worth it to pay for the rooms instead.

  2. Thanks for this. I’ll be in Bangkok during the promo and need 2-3 nights. The Park Plaza Soi 18 is looking rather attractive right now.

  3. @ Lucky – Thank you. The promo page wasn’t very clear.

Now I have to decide if this is worth my while…

  4. Hard to stay at a Carlson hotel in Asia where you can get amazing deals on Mandarin, Peninsula, Shangri-la, Bannyan Tree, etc…

  5. I have ten days in Bangkok in June. I was going all Starwood but now I may change after reading this. Thanks!
