Discounted JetBlue Points Redemptions

JetBlue’s TrueBlue program seems to frequently offer award redemption promotions, though they always make them more complicated than they have to, in my opinion. They’re back with another one, offering 25% off TrueBlue award flight redemptions. The details are as follows:

  • Valid for bookings made through February 19, 2014
  • Valid for travel between March 4 and April 9, 2014
  • Not valid for flights on Fridays and Sundays
  • Fares will not be discounted below 5,000 TrueBlue points
  • If applicable, the discounted award rate will automatically appear, so no registration is required

JetBlue has a revenue based frequent flyer program, and TrueBlue points can ordinarily be redeemed for roughly 1.5 cents each towards the cost of a ticket, so with the discount they can each be redeemed for roughly 1.875 cents towards the cost of travel.

So pulling up a random flight from Seattle to New York during the promotion period, the rate is 15,000 TrueBlue points plus $2.50 in taxes.

Meanwhile a revenue ticket would be $283. So when you subtract the $2.50 taxes, that’s a redemption of 15,000 points for a ~$280 ticket, which is ~1.87 cents per TrueBlue point.

The full terms & conditions read as follows:

1Restrictions: Fares must be purchased using TrueBlue points between now and 2/19/14 (the earlier of 11:59 PM EST or local) for flights on Mon., Tues., Wed., Thurs., and Sat. only between 3/4/14 and 4/9/14. Fares will automatically include a 25% discount on the base fare point requirement for Award Flight redemption, but Award Flights cannot be discounted below 5,000 points. Fares are subject to availability; may not be available on all flights; may change without notice; must be purchased at time of reservation; and are one-way, nonstop (unless otherwise noted), nonrefundable and nontransferable. Reservations made one week or more prior to a flight’s scheduled departure may be canceled without penalty up to 24 hours after the reservation is made. Government taxes and fees apply to Award Flights, are the responsibility of the passenger, and will vary based on your departure and destination cities. The amount of government taxes/fees required for an Award Flight is listed next to the applicable point requirement and is subject to change as required by law. Award Flight fares also do not include fees for oversized/overweight/extra baggage or other fees for products/services sold separately. To view baggage fees and other optional services and fees, click here. Discount will not apply to (and TrueBlue points cannot be used for) government taxes/fees or charges for products/services sold separately, which must be paid for using a major credit card at time of Award Flight booking. $25 fee applies to Award flight fares purchased by phone or at an airport or ticket office. Cancellations/changes must be made prior to scheduled departure (otherwise all money for fare is forfeited); $150 change/cancel fee per person will apply, and for changes, there may be a fare adjustment. Offer is limited to registered TrueBlue members in good standing redeeming Award Flight fares using TrueBlue points and is not valid in connection with monetary flight fares, purchases on partner airlines or code share or interline flights, JetBlue Getaways vacation packages, previously booked Award Flights or for any other product or service; offer cannot be partially redeemed, is not redeemable for cash, and has no cash value. All deadlines based on EST. Proper documentation required for boarding. Other restrictions apply.
