New IHG Rewards Club PointBreaks List

IHG Rewards Club unveiled their latest PointBreaks list to their “insider” community on Wednesday, though the properties weren’t bookable till today (November 1, 2013). Given that some hotels sell out of PointBreaks availability quickly, it was nice to get a bit of a heads up.

Anyway, the hotels on the list are now bookable for stays through January 31, 2014.

At only 5,000 points per night, PointBreaks is probably the single best promotion consistently offered in the hotel industry. Given that IHG Rewards Club points can be indirectly purchased for 0.7 cents each, that’s the equivalent of paying $35 per night for a hotel room.

The list looks much better than last time, and even includes the InterContinental properties in:

  • Kunming, China
  • Shanghai Ruijin, China
  • Maracaibo, Venezuela
  • Johannesburg, South Africa
  • Tahiti

PointBreaks stays have the same cancellation policy as any other reward booking, meaning they can usually be canceled until shortly before arrival.

If you find any properties that interest you, you’re definitely best off locking them in sooner rather than later, as the better properties tend to get removed from the list pretty quickly.

  1. I had same issue with IC Shanghai (30K points required) but called the IHG folks. After being put on hold the clerk came back and apologized for the discrepancy. She added 25K points to my account so as to deduct a net 5K for the room. She confirmed the reservation and wished me a great day. I’m sitting here amazed that she found a very reasonable solution. Thanks IHG.

  2. @AvidTraveler, I don’t know why or how she pulled it off. Very unexpected. Good luck with your booking.
