Starwood unveils details of fall “Take Two” promotion — September 1 through December 15, 2013

Starwood has just announced the details of their fall promotion, which is valid for stays from September 1 through December 15, 2013. Through this promotion you earn double base Starpoints on all stays without limit, and an additional 2,500 Starpoints for every five eligible nights you stay, up to 10,000 Starpoints.

Registration hasn’t opened yet, though I’ll post once it does. Registration will be required by October 31, 2013. You can find the full terms & conditions here and list of non-participating properties here.

This is almost identical to Starwood’s “Double Take” summer promotion, which offered double Starpoints plus 500 Starpoints for bookings made through the mobile website. They’re just packaging it a bit differently. Nothing to get excited over or switch bookings over, really, but better than what Hyatt offered this summer (which is only targeted bonus offers).

  1. This may make me shoot for plat, now.

Would you spend roughly $1200 mattress running for ~18k SPG points + marginal benefits of platinum status vs gold? Assuming I stay 20-25 nights next year at mostly international properties on award stays…

  2. @ Justin — I value Starpoints at 2.2 cents each, so that’s roughly ~$400 worth of points. That means you’d be paying roughly $800 for Platinum status, which I do think is a good value if you’ll be doing that many stays next year mostly at international properties. So I say go for it!

  3. platinum benefits are not marginal. In fact, gold is really worthless, you need platinum if you stay at starwood.

  4. By marginal I meant marginal difference between gold and plat. In other words, “benefits received as platinum but not received as gold.”

That’s roughly my calculation too, and I think I’ll go for it. At worst, I’m paying $20pp for breakfast over 20 stays…

  5. @ Justin — Totally agree with your logic, and if you’re traveling to Asia a good bit you can expect suite upgrades pretty consistently as well. In Europe not so much, sadly…

  6. Just received this attractive (targeted) offer:

Let’s call it a comeback. You’ve only stayed with us once this year and we’d like to have you back at one of our nine distinctive brands — including Westin®, St. Regis® and W®. We know you’ll love it. Simply register and complete one eligible stay between August 1 and October 31, 2013, at any of our more than 1,100 hotels and resorts, and your account will be credited with a Free Night Award* for you to redeem by December 31, 2013. Think night out in New York or beach time in Bali. This one’s on us.

    * Redeemable at any Category 1–5 hotel or resort

Fairmont, Marriott, and Hilton have been getting the large majority of my stays this year.

  7. I got the free night offer to. I guess I’ll change a Hyatt stay to spg to get a free night. Hopefully, Marriott will give me 2 more free nights in September too.

  8. And once again, basically all of the SPG Boston, Chicago, New York, and San Francisco are properties have opted out of the promotion. And the Westin Portland, where I might have otherwise stayed during the promotion period. And the Aloft Whitefield Bengaluru, where I likely would have stayed for work.

These hotel promotions have been getting less and less useful for me as more and more properties decide not to participate in them.
