American offering bonuses on purchased AAdvantage miles through August 1, 2013!

American is running a promotion on the purchase of AAdvantage miles through August 1, 2013. They’re offering tiered bonuses, as follows:

While you can purchase up to 60,000 AAdvantage miles per calendar year, the way to max out this promotion would be by purchasing 50,000 miles, given that it would make you eligible for the highest tiered bonus of 15,000 miles. If you did this, 65,000 miles would run you $1,513.13, which is ~2.3 cents per mile.

In both February and April American ran promotions whereby miles could be purchased for ~2 cents each, so this isn’t the best promotion we’ve seen on purchased miles. That being said, if you need to top off an account for an award now, this promotion is certainly worth keeping in mind.

Lastly, for what it’s worth, American processes mileage purchases through, so any purchased miles wouldn’t qualify for bonus points on your credit card as if it’s airline spend.
