Reminder: Alaska and Icelandair relationship ending on May 31, 2013

Back in February I shared the news that Alaska and Icelandair would be terminating their relationship as of May 31, 2013. I’m really hoping to visit Iceland this year, and I seem to not be alone.

It’s worth noting that the Alaska and Icelandair relationship will end on May 31 for a couple of reasons. First of all, you still have a few days to redeem Alaska miles on Icelandair, so if you’ve been eying a redemption on them, now would be a great time to do so. As a reminder, their award chart looks as follows:

But in my opinion the more lucrative aspect of this partnership is that you can earn Alaska miles for revenue flights on Icelandair. Even though the partnership ends on May 31, 2013, as long as you book a flight by that date you can still accrue miles, even if it’s for travel in the future. As a matter of fact you can earn Alaska miles for travel on Icelandair through February 28, 2014. But you have to book by Friday.

  1. Whether you visit Iceland in the summer (almost 24-hour sunshine) or winter (only a few hours of daylight but lots of northern lights activity at nighit), you’ll have a blast! Enjoy! Will look forward to reading your Iceland trip report before Feb 2014!

  2. Just booked 2 seats saga class(first class) SEA-REY-AMS round trip for November so there is availibilty. So excited to visit Iceland!

  3. Lucky, what do you advise I do with 60,000 iceland saga club miles before this partnership gets over?

  4. @ avidtraveler — There should be no fuel surcharges on redemptions booked through Alaska for travel on Icelandair.
