Chase Sapphire Preferred® offering triple points on dining on first Friday of each month

Update: Triple points on dining on the first Friday of each month is no longer available

Chase has just announced a new benefit for the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, whereby you can earn triple points on dining on the first Friday of each month. The card already offers double points on dining, so this is basically an extra point per dollar on dining for the first Friday of each month.

It’s worth keeping in mind that for the second quarter (April 1 through June 30) the Chase Freedom® is offering 5x points for the first $1,500 spent at restaurants, movie theaters, and at Lowe’s, so if you have both cards you’ll want to be sure you can reach that threshold before focusing dining spend on the Chase Sapphire Preferred.

Anyway, while the extra point per dollar once a month might be a gimmick of sorts, I know I’ll still be taking advantage of it.

(Tip of the hat to Gary)

  1. Nice opportunity to buy gift cards for your favorite restaurant on Friday, and use them the rest of the month.

  2. I’ve had the CSP since last June and haven’t gotten this email. How do I know if I qualify for this? I have a very large “dining” purchase to make in June (more than $17K) and this could make a big difference. Thanks

  3. Ben, is this card churnable? I mean I had this almost 2 years back and had cancelled it then… so any chance I can get the bonus again?

  4. Dave

I had last year one of this “dining” expenses and I was thrilled with 2x! 3x would be amazing, I hope you get it!

  5. Before you go decide to invest a large amount for a dining bonus, I would recommend you do a test run, because not all dining establishments are registered as such. (This goes for all categories.) For example, I’ve been using my Freedom card for 5x points instead of CSP and other cards. Come to find out, the restaurant is “Uncategorized.”

  6. @ Dave — This was posted on their Facebook page and it’s not targeted. So if you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred card you’re eligible.

  7. @ Apu — As is the case with all Chase cards, it’s very much a case of “your mileage may vary.” Within 18 months they’re rarely churnable, while outside of 18 months some report success while others don’t.

  8. @ Dax — The links above are the best available ones, offering 10,000 points after spending $500 within three months.

  9. Update: If you call Chase, they’ll give you the points for the restaurants that are not categorized as such. All you need to do is let them know.

  10. I hate promotions like this…

Trying to make me remember to use a card to eat out on the first Friday of a month? No way… No can do.

I barely can remember which card I should use to buy groceries (AMEX PRG, by the way).
