Starwood adds Android app, now eligible for “Better By the Night” 500 Starpoint booking bonus

Starwood has just released an Android app, which I know a lot of people have been waiting for. And while I have an iPhone, reports are that it’s very useful aside from some bugs (like the “recent activity” tab not showing any activity, which I’m sure will be worked out over time).

It’s worth noting that you do earn 500 bonus Starpoints for every booking made through the Android app through the “Better By the Night” promotion.

Previously the only mobile app they had was for the iPhone, so they offered 500 bonus Starpoints for that. But Starwood Lurker on FlyerTalk has confirmed that the Android App is also eligible for the bonus:

The SPG App for Android is eligible for the SPG Better by the Night promotion, earning 500 bonus Starpoints for booking through the App.

  1. I need a points + cash reservation in the next couple days, but it kicked me out of the app when I selected the “use my Starpoints” option. A shame that this is not a function of the app.

  2. @ Susan — I assume it’ll take a bit of time till they work out all the kinks. That being said, keep in mind the 500 bonus points only applies for paid bookings, so you might as well make the reservation on the website.

  3. They should have released the Android app a long time ago considering how Android has a larger market in the smartphone world.

  4. When the promotion originally came out, the T&C specifically said that if the Android version came out during the promotion, it would only be eligible for the 250 web booking bonus, not the 500. Now Android is not listed in any way in the official promo T&C. Are we sure it’s eligible for the 500?

  5. @ Colin McHale — The official Starwood representative on FlyerTalk said those bookings are valid, so I’d trust say it’s certain.

  6. Lucky, I had the some issue with my SPG app. As soon as I updated to the updated version (enhanced for iO6), it fixed itself and now the recent activity shows up. You can always delete the app and download it fresh, then login to your account and it should fix the problem.

    Take note: I called the SPG desk yesterday to find out when the 500 points are coming in from my last SPG stay at the W Scottsdale (three weeks ago) and she told me at least three weeks for the points deposit, if not more. Also, the 250 SPG points per reservation day for a Four Square check in (linked to your SPG account) are suppose to take 4-6 weeks they said.
