Hilton HHonors announces the details of their fall promotion

Hilton has just announced the details of their fall promotion, which will run from November 1 through December 31, 2012.

Through this promotion you earn 1,000 Hilton HHonors bonus points for every night you stay, with the exception of Tuesday and Wednesday nights. That means a Thursday through Monday night stay would earn you 5,000 bonus points, and a week long stay would also earn you 5,000 bonus points. There’s no limit to the number of points that can be earned, though there’s a big list of non-participating hotels for this promotion.

Registration is required prior to check-out of your first stay to qualify, and bonus points post 6-8 weeks after the completion of the stay.

I value Hilton points at 0.8 cents each, so by my valuation this promotion offers an $8 return per night, excluding the non-participating hotels and Tuesday/Wednesday nights. That’s not that exciting in and of itself. That being said, this can be stacked with the Virgin Atlantic promotion that Hilton is running through December 31, which indirectly offers 40,000 Hilton HHonors points for your first five stays. So if you were to make five one-night stays you’re looking at 9,000 Hilton HHonors points per night, in addition to the points you’d usually earn. Now that’s awesome.

To recap, as their fall promotion Starwood is offering 750 bonus Starpoints per stay (for booking through their iPhone app and checking in on Foursquare) in addition to double points for stays of up to two nights and triple points for stays of three or more nights. As their fall promotion Hyatt is offering tiered bonuses which can earn you as many as 65,000 bonus points for 35 nights.

  1. Patethic promotion… Starwood’s is pretty pathetic too, but their points are far more valuable in my book.

I earned a ton of points from the Homewood Suites in Bel Air, Maryland off a four night stay there [company paid] and there were tons of business travelers staying there when I was there, so I am not surprised they opted out.

This makes me wonder, does Hilton force individual hotels to pay for the points HHonors member earns for staying at their hotel?

  2. Way to screw over your business travelers Hilton. I’ve been Diamond since 2004 and was debating whether or not to keep it. Starwood has triple points in the 4th quarter, so much more valuable. 1k points is nothing. For a $100/nt room, you earn 1k points, so that’s essentially double, but not on Tuesday and Wednesday, so if you’re a M-R traveler, you only get 1k bonus points for the week. Probably the worst promotion I’ve seen in years.

  3. Pretty terrible promotion, especially compared to last years Q4 free nights after four stays or ten nights. Nonetheless I’ll be doing at least five stays for the 40k points via VA.

  4. this promotion is not attractive at all. it has some value only when you combine it with Virgin Atlantic or with Delta double mile+ MQM mile promotion.

  5. This is a very disappointing promotion on Hilton’s part, and I will add that I am a big fan of Hiltons and the HHonors program. Marriott is offering a 2 stay earn a free promo for earning up to 2 free nights at a Category 4 hotel, and SPG’s promo is also more attractive than Hilton’s.

One can purchase 1000 HHonors points for $12.50. The promo also excludes Tuesday and Wednesday stays. It sems cheap and petty on Hilton’s part!
