Reminder: One week left to book United MileagePlus awards on Qatar Airways!

I figured I’d post a quick reminder that United and Qatar Airways’ relationship will end on September 14, 2012, which is a week from today.

Qatar Airways has excellent business class award availability which opens up a lot of great destinations, and they also have a fantastic product with fully flat seats in business class. So if you’ve been thinking about booking an award on Qatar Airways using United MileagePlus miles, be sure to do so in the next week. Qatar Airways serves Houston, Montreal, New York, and Washington in North America, and offers great connections to Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

Keep in mind that for the most part United agents can no longer see Qatar Airways award availability, so Qatar Airways awards need to be booked online. Therefore be sure to check out my post about booking Qatar Airways awards for the easiest way to do that.

  1. I was going to book one for summer 2013, but am worried they might not honor it seeing how they are ending partnership. You think that my concern has merit?

  2. How is it that “for the most part the United agents can not see awailability”, but it can be booked online? Is it the case where they just don’t want to or don’t understand the rules or are they trully blocked from booking?

  3. @ jon — Definitely no risk. As long as it’s ticketed before September 15 it’ll be honored. You just won’t be able to change to other Qatar flights once the partnership ends.

@ Papa Smurf — It seems to legitimately be blocked from agents’ computers, but hasn’t been booked from the online interface.

  4. Disagree. Can get QR flights from Kuwait, Frankfurt, etc; however, the system refuses to list any QR from YUL, JFK, IAD. I chose non-stop, which it ignores.

  5. There is a workaround that allows agents to see it. Also, it is possible to book QR F with UA miles. I don’t know why no one ever mentions this…
