50% discount for transferring Delta SkyMiles through August 31, 2012

Through August 31, 2012, Delta is offering a 50% discount on the transfer of SkyMiles, plus they’re waiving transaction fees.

The normal cost to transfer SkyMiles is a cent per mile, so through this promotion you’re basically paying 0.5 cents per transferred mile. Now this doesn’t actually generate miles, but if you’re just looking to consolidate miles to get enough for an award this could make sense (especially if you’re transferring miles to an elite account in order to avoid fees, for example). Through this promotion you can transfer a maximum of 30,000 SkyMiles per transaction, and a maximum of 150,000 SkyMiles FROM a single account and a maximum of 300,000 SkyMiles TO a single account.

This isn’t nearly as lucrative as the 100% bonus on transferred miles they’ve offered in the past, which essentially made it possible to purchase miles for ~1.1 cents each.

(Tip of the hat to Delta Points)

  1. Just curious, but the website doesn’t mention 50% bonus. Where do we see that? I’d hate to start the points transferring game, only to find out that I didn’t get the 50% bonus.

  2. The transaction fee of $30 per 30,000 miles is waived. There is no discount on the amount charged for the miles transferred. Neither is there a bonus. Perhaps the bonus and/or discounted transfer price is a targeted offer.

  3. @ Tucsonbabe — This is a generic link. When you look at the drop down menu, don’t you see it list $150 next to the 30,000 mile transfer?
